Overview

WildBrain is looking for Lead FX Artists to join our team for a newly greenlit CG project. This action-packed show will be using Unreal pipeline, its powerful tools, and all the benefits of real-time production.

These BC-based contracts start: over March 2024 

We will be reviewing applications early and having hiring conversations starting: January 2024 

As a Lead FX Artist you oversee the daily activities of the FX team to create high-caliber dynamic and riveting FX for our 3D episodic animated series. You will work closely with the Directors to achieve the look of the show. The ideal candidate is an experienced artist with a creative eye and the ability to guide and support their team.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

What You’ll Do:

  • Create and deliver FX for the series and each episode within scheduled timelines 
  • Ensure that all production deadlines are met while producing work at a quality level in keeping with production requirements 
  • Identify obstacles that could potentially affect the timelines and delivery schedules 
  • Research and develop efficient techniques to create unique FX, animator FX rigs, and proxy FX rigs for previs 
  • Work with FX team to ensure work gets communicated and executed in a timely manner 
  • Collaborate with Compositing and Lighting Supervisors to ensure efficiency between departments 
  • Construct creative solutions for recurring FX in the production to be implemented in animation 
  • Participate in FX meetings and adjust/refine FX as required 
  • Anticipate, communicate, and troubleshoot any creative or technical issues with assistance from key stakeholders 
  • Oversee the daily activities and capabilities of the FX team including all task assignments 
  • Partner with Production Management to guide artists’ overall professional development, providing performance feedback, mentoring, assist with resolving performance issues and maintaining positive morale amongst the crew 
  • Foster a healthy and creative work environment 
  • Create and maintain documentation for all FX assets 
  • Accurately estimate time and resource needs to ensure project deadlines are met 

What You’ll Bring:

  • 4+ years of experience in animation, games, or film industry 
  • 2+ years of experience as a Senior FX Artist 
  • Experience creating FX within Unreal Engine
  • Experience using Blueprints
  • Experience using Niagara
  • Ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas 
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently 
  • Ability to work alone and collaboratively, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressure 
  • Encouraging attitude towards feedback and new initiatives 

Nice to Have: 

  • Experience with Chaos Physics
  • Proficiency in Houdini or similar FX package
  • Production knowledge of Perforce, or similar version control software

Pay Range $1760 to $2500 per week

Candidates are paid within the range posted, but their exact pay will vary based on the level, responsibilities and expectations of the role. We also take into consideration the experience and skills that individuals brings, with considerations of our internal equity.
