What To Expect
As a Production Control Autonomous Mobile Robot Process Technician at Tesla, you'll collaborate on the implementation and continuous improvement of automated internal material logistics conveyance via AMRs. The role involves executing operational checks, troubleshooting software and hardware issues, improving fleet efficiency, and upholding the accuracy and reliability of our automated material flow systems. Through true cross-departmental teamwork, our technicians and process engineers design, implement and Improve conveyance methods, AMR requirements, lineside and warehouse layouts, and replenishment methods to deliver materials effectively and safely to the line.
What You'll Do
Conduct AMR delivery readiness checks at the start (SOS) and end of shift (EOS), including safety pre-checks, 5S compliance, and equipment readiness; prepare workstations for seamless shift handoffs and execute emergency response protocols to minimize downtime and risks
Monitor, track, and coach team members on key performance metrics; perform periodic audits of material flow and inventory accuracy using MFS to support just-in-time operations
Perform first-level troubleshooting on AMR processes, hardware, and software; conduct basic maintenance such as sensor cleaning and inspections; escalate complex issues to Process Engineers, Maintenance, or Software Support teams
Complete detailed end-of-shift pass-down reports documenting downtime, safety incidents, equipment issues, quality concerns, material shortages, and operational feedback in Tesla’s tracking systems
Analyze processes and implement improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, safety, productivity, and cost-effectiveness; recommend system enhancements to optimize AMR fleet performance
Master internal systems, including MFS, OM (Overmind), and CAD layouts; leverage AMR data analytics to predict failures and implement preventive measures for long term reliability
What You'll Bring
2–3 years of experience in manufacturing, warehouse operations, or material handling, with hands-on exposure to automated systems such as AMRs, AGVs, conveyors, or robotics preferred
Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware and software issues, with basic knowledge of automation tools (e.g., sensors, fleet management software) or a strong willingness to learn
Practical experience with operational checks, inventory management, and layout design (e.g., lineside or warehouse setups), using tools like Excel and PowerPoint to record, monitor, and analyze data
Strong analytical skills to evaluate processes, identify inefficiencies, and implement improvements that streamline material flow and eliminate non-value-added activities
Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively across departments and provide actionable feedback for continuous improvement
Demonstrated adaptability in dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environments, with flexibility for varying shifts while maintaining high standards of safety, reliability, and World Class Manufacturing
Essential Physical Demands
Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain
Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs
Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach to install parts
Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day
Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures
Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing
Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, reflective vest, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
