Position Summary

Manage and support team of client developers to implement new features/functionality and address/fix bugs on Roku, Xbox One, Android/Fire TV and Tizen video apps. Work closely with Product Management, Project Management and Backend Technology Services teams to understand features, timeline and integration points that support the business and contribute to FOX distribution initiatives.

The Sr. Technology Lead, must understand both business and technical objectives, have a full working knowledge of JavaScript and related technologies while being able to translate business goals into technical requirements and solutions. You will be responsible for simultaneously being hands-on and for providing technical vision and guiding the project and the development team towards that vision.


  • Manages new and ongoing development and maintenance for FOX NOW, FXNOW and National Geographic Channel applications across Xbox One, Fire TV, Android TV, Samsung TV and Roku
  • Software developer for Roku channels using SceneGraph and for Xbox One, Android TV and Fire TV using HTML5/JavaScript
  • Conceives of and is responsible for architecting scalable data-driven, high traffic application frameworks and solutions in a complex technology ecosystem made up of multiple 3rd-party service integrations
  • Manages distributed vendor and 3rd-party development teams from different agencies, both onshore and offshore
  • Manages application lifecycle and submission working closely with Apple, Google, Amazon and other OEM partners
  • Defines and evaluates complex video and content API feed responses and formats
  • Collaborates with stakeholders and peers to capture business requirements into technical requirements for implementation teams
  • Presents team accomplishments to senior management
  • Represents team at conferences and executive reviews
  • Provides feedback on FNG video and TV Everywhere products
  • Subject matter expert across OTT video delivery, advertising, authentication and analytics
  • Introduces new technologies and platforms to team
  • Informs overall technical direction, specifications and architectural/coding standards
  • Informs development best practices and processes
  • Evaluates SOWs and development estimates
  • Evaluates potential new vendors and service providers
  • Evaluates new technologies strategic to DCG
  • Perform code reviews
  • Facilitates meetings with internal stakeholders, peers, vendors and various 3rd parties


  • Familiarity with full-stack or at a minimum, front-end client application development management
  • 4-5 years hands-on software development experience; professional level knowledge of languages (HTML5, JavaScript; Roku SceneGraph a plus), Web Service protocols (REST, SAML)
  • Experience with online video streaming
  • Experience using GIT, JIRA, Slack and other collaborate development tools
  • Demonstrated problem solving and solution building skills
  • Must be detail-oriented, have excellent organizational skills, and be expected to manage and report on multiple projects
  • Must have a solid foundation in software development (languages, design patterns, bug fixing, debugger tools and code reviews) and be willing/able to apply those principles to ramp up quickly on new technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing requirements in a continuously evolving environment
  • Ability to deliver high standards while working within tight deadlines in a high pressure environment
  • Experience with a variety of project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, etc.)
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills with internal and external teams
  • Ability to collaborate closely with product managers, business stakeholders, engineers, vendors and agencies
  • Troubleshooting/problem solving skills are a must
  • Demonstrable proficiency in Object-Oriented Programming principles and one or more of the following languages: JavaScript, SceneGraph, Java
  • Demonstrable proficiency with Roku, tvOS, Xbox or similar development lifecycle and submission process
  • Excellent organization, time management, and project management skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to multi-task across different clients and requirements
  • Superb attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and be proactive
  • Familiarity working in Media
  • Physical Demands -  frequently required use of hands and fingers to write, manipulate telephone and computer keyboard.  Regularly required to hear, talk and use close vision.
