POSITION SUMMARY:

Advanced Energy is currently seeking Electrical Design Engineering Interns and Co-Ops to support development activities across our North American design sites. Successful candidates will carry out their internships at Advanced Energy’s sites in Colorado, Minnesota, New York, or California. They will work with an experienced engineering team, closely collaborating on the development of high-performance, precision, efficient and cost-effective power conversion, metrology, or controls solutions. Both undergraduate and post-graduate candidates will be considered for fall and School-year internships. Candidates should be actively pursuing degree programs at one of the following institutions: University of Colorado, Colorado State University, University of Minnesota, University at Buffalo, Rochester Institute of Technology, California Polytechnic State University, or San Jose State University. 

REPONSIBILITIES:

Candidates may perform and support design activities related to any of the following:

  • Active participant in a core team to meet schedule, cost, and customer satisfaction goals
  • Assisting in the development, testing, and de-bugging of prototype power supply units
  • Analyze test data and reports against functional and performance specifications
  • Interfacing with internal departments to ensure cost and schedule goals are met
  • Circuit design of analog and digital circuits, EMI filters, and power circuits
  • Development and implementation of control algorithms
  • Design and analysis of magnetic components
  • Modeling and simulation of devices, circuits or systems using commercial or proprietary tools

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Ability to work in a lab environment debugging circuits and evaluating product spec compliance using tools including oscilloscopes, power meters, multimeters, logic analyzers, and firmware interface tools
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Windows-based platforms and with computer-based design and analysis tools, working knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to meet schedule requirements and define priorities without direct supervision

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with CAD tools, for schematics, analysis, and modeling/simulation
  • History of firmware programming for embedded systems is a plus
  • Ability to work with serial communication protocols such as UART, SPI and I2C

EDUCATION:

  • Candidates working towards a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 40 credits towards an Electrical Engineering (BSEE), or Computer Engineering (BSCE) degree, or equivalent
  • Candidates working towards MS or Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering. Preference will be given to those with a Power Electronics and/or Controls focus, but other fields consistent with Advanced Energy’s needs will also be considered
  • GPA > 3.25
