Job Description

The CTA Communications Technician shall be responsible for organizational repair/maintenance of all communications equipment, including FSAMG/LCS and communications towers, in support of the Fire Units and Battalion. The CTA Communication Technician shall provide technical assistance and sustainment/refresher training to BDF personnel. The CTA Communications Technician shall provide technical advice, assistance, and demonstration of methods to BDF personnel (to include BDF civilian contractors applicably authorized via the International Traffic and Arms Regulation (ITAR)) for the testing, maintenance, repair, configuration, and operation of all communications and related equipment within the Battalion/FU area of operations including FSAMG and tower equipment, Ultra High Frequency, and Very High Frequency (UHF/VHF) radios, COMSEC, IP Routers, cabling, etc. The CTA Communications Technician shall assist in the coordination of maintenance/repairs with battalion and CMF personnel. The CTA Communications Technician shall provide expertise on communications planning for fixed site and tactical deployments. The CTA Communications Technician shall also be responsible for building and tower mounted UHF/VHF communication equipment that requires certification as a Communications Tower Worker. This position is located in Manama, Bahrain.

Required Skills:

Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in troubleshooting, fault isolation, repair and functional verification of PATRIOT specific radios and radio relay communications systems and/or other related military tactical radio communications systems.

Proficiency in the use of commercial test equipment and tools used in troubleshooting and repair of electronic circuits is mandatory.

An excellent knowledge of basic and advanced electronics, HFSSB, VHF/UHF/AM and multiplex communications systems and associated control or switching equipment is required.

Graduate of OEM AMG technical training. Also be a graduate of the Contractor Logistics Support School, the US Army PATRIOT Intermediate Maintenance Course, or PATRIOT System Technicians Course, or have the equivalent of two (2) years of PATRIOT AMG maintenance experience.

Able to certify as a Communications Tower Worker, climbing up to 350 feet.

Knowledge of configuring, operating, and restoring Cisco switches and routers.

Desired Skills: 

Should be skilled in troubleshooting and repair of the SINCGARS, MIDS terminals, JTIDS and similar type radios.

Experience with Link-16, 3011C multicast links, and PADIL operations.

Demonstrated experience or working knowledge of CPX-200/300, MLT- 220, and international Digital Switch Multiplexing Equipment.

Experience with Linux, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2012 R2.

Education:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Applied Science or will accept an Associate Degree in Engineering or Applied Science and equivalent job-related experience or a High School Degree/GED with successful completion of a military course of instruction on radio/communications equipment repair on the basis of two (2) additional years’ experience for each one (1) year of higher education.
