Job Description

An exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Science and Technology (MS&T) Senior Scientist role has arisen at our new state of the art, single use, multi-product facility in Dunboyne.

As well as contributing to the running of our MS&T Bioprocess Laboratory, you will work across site as part of a diverse and interdisciplinary team to build capability and knowledge in the manufacture of biologics at our Dunboyne facility.

As a key member of the team of MS&T scientists and engineers in Dunboyne, you will execute upstream, downstream and / or analytical testing operations within the laboratory. You will provide technical leadership to team deliverables, to site investigations and to technical teams supporting new product introduction at Dunboyne. 

Working as part of self-directed team, you will have the opportunity to grow your technical and leadership capabilities and continue building your career. Acting as a subject matter expert in the area of biologics manufacture, you will work closely with teams in manufacturing, process engineering, testing and analytical science and technology to deliver innovative solutions that create value for our patients.

What you will do:

Bring energy, knowledge, innovation and leadership to carry out the following:

  • Be responsible for all aspects of lab project delivery in support of process tech transfer.
  • Support planning and execution of laboratory scale-down model establishment and satellite studies for new products.
  • Devise and execute process optimisation studies to support manufacturing efficiencies.
  • Develop and lead technical assessments on new products in partnership with global technical teams, providing input to product strategy.
  • Lead and coach others to solve complex technical problems.
  • Demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Represent MS&T on interdisciplinary site and network teams, with demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate across boundaries.
  • Perform supporting activities for new product introduction and general lab readiness.
  • Complete product robustness monitoring in partnership with global technical teams and provide leadership for investigations.
  • Demonstrate “safety first, quality always” mindset in all responsibilities.

What skills you will need:

In order to excel in this role, you will more than likely have:

  • Advanced Degree (MSc or PhD) qualification with minimum 5 – 10 years of experience (scientific discipline in biotechnology, biochemistry, pharmacy, process engineering or equivalent).
  • Technical expertise with biologics drug substance upstream and downstream operations, analytical testing, process development and tech transfer.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team but also on own initiative.
  • Deep problem-solving expertise.
  • Demonstrated experience of technical leadership.
  • Effective communicator and deep technical expertise in science.
  • Ability to think logically and be proactive under pressure.
  • Organisation skills – Ability to manage multiple priorities and know when to escalate issues for resolution.
  • Proven project management experience.
  • Ability to lead and coach others to solve problems and take new perspectives on existing solutions.
