Director of Student-Athlete Experience/Assistant Coach - Women's Ice Hockey

St. Norbert College, a nationally-ranked, private, Catholic, liberal arts college is seeking a Director of Student-Athlete Experience/Assistant Coach - Women's Ice Hockey. This position is responsible for coaching duties assigned by the head women’s ice hockey coach and administrative duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

Specific responsibilities:

Provide oversight for student-athlete development including student-athlete advisory committee and student-athlete programming. Collaborate with campus and external partners to develop programming that supports the whole person development of St. Norbert College student-athletes while also meeting NCAA and campus policies. Serve as the department lead for Title IX. - 20% 

Responsible for NCAA Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) and the surrounding policy and education for coaches and student-athletes. - 5% 

Provide event management at home athletic contests as SNC athletic administrator. - 10% 

Collaborate with the Assistant Athletic Director in the areas of NCAA compliance and track academic progress. - 5% 

Aid the women’s ice hockey head coach in providing leadership and organization for all phases of the operation of the program within conference and NCAA compliance, including fundraising. - 20%

Manage the recruiting process for the women’s ice hockey program from initial contact to enrollment, scouting and game management software programs and their operations. - 20%

Teach skills, techniques, terminology, and strategies of the sport of women’s ice hockey. - 20%

Perform additional duties as assigned and attend College required training. Regular attendance is required. Work in a manner that is aware of personal safety and the safety of others and observes safety, health and sanitation codes, regulations, or practices required by the College or governmental authority.

Supervision Exercised Over: 

  • 10-15 students

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Education - 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Administration or a related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Experience and Credentials -

  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse campus environment or commitment to do so as an employee of St. Norbert College.
  • 1-3 years of successful coaching experience.
  • 1-3 years of related administrative experience in sport management and student-athlete development. 
  • Experience in supervising and leading the growth of staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities -

  • Strong ability to recruit student athletes in the context of NCAA Division III philosophy.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. 
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to interact professionally with coworkers and customers, particularly in conflict situations.
  • Ability to interact politely and resolve customer service issues.
  • Ability to multitask, meet specific deadlines, and prioritize tasks and assignments.
  • Skilled in basic math computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Office, Google Apps, Workday) and ability to learn upgrades and new programs as needed.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and decisions in an expeditious manner.
  • Skilled at setting a good example for others. 
  • Skilled at organizing events, programs, projects and seeing them through to completion.
  • Skilled at making presentations to small (<25) people.
  • Ability to concentrate and focus in a noisy environment.

The College may consider any equivalent amount of credentials, licensures, training, or experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of this job.

Working Conditions:

Work is primarily performed at competition/practice venues, classroom or office settings. Weekends, early mornings and evenings are generally required. This position is expected to travel. This position is expected to work on campus on a regular basis and is eligible to participate in a Hybrid Work and Flexible Schedules. Approval of Flexible Work Arrangements are at the discretion of the department supervisor to ensure that the needs of the department and college are met.
