Why does the job exist?

This position will serve as the technical expert in desktop and local area network support and analysis in the Office of Information Technology Application Support Unit, ensuring resolution of all reported issues.

How does it get done?

  • Open, resolve, or assign calls to the proper technical group by monitoring the incident management system (or help-desk system) and email
  • Provide application technical coverage and desktop support to resolve end-users¿ issues either on-site or via remote tools
  • Stay up to date on New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) desktop standards
  • Manage computers and users in an Active Directory domain environment
  • Meet NMED and Department of Information Technology (DolT) security standards
  • Find solutions to complex technical issues in a timely fashion to reduce impact on end-user performance and downtime, often under stressful conditions and deadlines
  • Use existing department resources to resolve technical problems
  • Investigate complex support issues that may involve more than one agency or vendor

  • Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies as well as contractors and environmental not for profit organizations

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has experience in the following:

  • End-user (customer or client) support
  • Utilizing WordPress, Trumba, Trello, Coda, Canva
  • Communicating effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or Equivalent and two (2) years of experience in providing technical support to end-users for computer hardware, software, and/or network related problems. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. Typical office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with some flexible hours potentially available, pending performance, after probationary period ends. Must be able to lift 25lbs to handle department-issued workstation equipment. Offsite travel is required.
