The Opportunity:

WSP is currently seeking a motivated individual for a Mechanical Engineer-in-Training or Junior Mechanical Engineering Technologist to join our Mechanical Buildings group, located at our Edmonton office. 

Responsible for building system designs including fire protection, plumbing, medical gas, and HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), controls and other specialty building systems. 

A day in the life...

  • Demonstrated ability to work with senior staff in the development of drawing packages; 
  • Design of HVAC systems; 
  • Design of plumbing and fire-protection systems; 
  • Analysis of the building’s heating, ventilation, and cooling loads; 
  • Perform engineering calculations; 
  • Combination of office environment and field work for site investigation and contractor installation reviews. Hybrid work from home and office might be required. 

What you'll bring to WSP ...

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree from an accredited institution
  • Registered as an Engineer-in-Training with APEGA, or eligibility to for an E.I.T.; 
  • Experience has been focused on building projects. Desirable experience to include light industrial, commercial, institutional, health care and recreational buildings. Heavy industrial building experience is desirable but not mandatory; 
  • Proven working knowledge with AutoCAD and Revit software; 
  • Demonstrated understanding of Plumbing, Fire Protection and HVAC layouts; 
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office; 
  • A “can do” attitude with good initiative, attention to detail and strong organizational skills; 
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are required; 
  • Must have a proven record of working collaboratively in a team environment; 
  • LEED accreditation and Passive House Certification is an asset
