Job Introduction

The BBC SSR Group exists to help get programmes made for TV, Radio and On-Line: by finding safe and healthy ways to enable the creation of the distinctive and world-class content that our audiences demand; by ensuring that our people, productions and premises remain secure and on air.

The SSR Specialist sits within the Corporate Security team providing, corporate security to our staff ,assets and events. This is a permanent role, based in Cardiff but also covering Scotland and Northern Ireland so some travel will be expected.

Main Responsibilities

As an SSR Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety and security of our assets people and events. You will be responsible for providing a specialist advisory service on security to the BBC workforce, which involves providing guidance, training and process delivery, often around specific areas of Physical, Personal and Event security. 

The role can work independently to resolve complex queries, but will work collaboratively as part of a wider specialist team to manage more complex issues and projects.

In particular, you will:

  • Provides guidance, training, information, manages data and executes process delivery, often of a specialist nature
  • Advises the workforce based on information received and knowledge of policy and process; understands issues and problems and manages them accordingly
  • Collaborates with wider specialist teams to manage and deliver more complex specialist projects and deliverables
  • Represents the team at meetings, providing mentoring and taking the lead on specific issues/topics/projects or incidents as required.
  • Encourages the continuous improvement to specialism by pro-active engagement with, and coaching of, employees and junior roles with SSR team and our 3rd party suppliers.
  • Keeps abreast of legal updates and undertakes CPD activities to maintain knowledge required for role or professional membership.
  • Help shape and oversee the Security Delivery of our 3rd Party security provider.
  • Conduct security risk assessments of buildings, events and personal properties.

Are you the right candidate?

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Relevant specialist diploma ( i.e. CSMP) or equivalent proven security experience 
  • In-Depth knowledge of relevant legislation in relation to Physical, Personal and Event security 
  • Proven experience of personal involvement in the management of specialism within diverse organisation
  • Sufficient breadth of specialist knowledge in the specialist subject/discipline to advise on specialist subject, risk management and legalisation.
  • Ability to analyse or/and investigate and contextualise complex issues, identify key points to be addressed and develop effective, practical and simple plans to resolve problems
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), including the ability to present clear and concise professional communications to a range of audiences within the BBC, and to external agencies as necessary

Salary: £50,000 to £57,500pa, depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
