Johnson & Johnson Innovation is recruiting a Business Development Operations Manager, JLABS Korea. The Business Development Operations Manager is responsible for leading and supporting sourcing, portfolio management and for developing, monitoring, and analyzing KPIs across all operational areas. This role will help drive key initiatives and strategic long-term goals through scheduled tracking and reporting to create visibility of these metrics across the organization. As part of a small and focused team, each person working at JJI plays a critical role. The successful applicant will work on sourcing diligence, pipeline management, internal and external reporting and updating portfolio metric tools. The Business Development Operations Manager will work in partnership with the Head of JLABS, Korea, and the Strategic Marketing Associate Director to support the mission of JLABS Korea including but not limited to regulatory and government reporting, communications and marketing planning, curated content, and co-hosting third-party events and conferences. In this role, the Business Development Operations Manager is responsible for engaging in a cross functional team and supporting external engagements and partners that advance business objectives, drive awareness and advance organizational reputation.

The Business Development Operations Manager provides support to the Head of JLABS, Korea providing office services by implementing administrative systems, procedures, and policies. The Business Development Operations Manager will be responsible for overseeing the seamless onboarding and offboarding of JLABS Korea companies, ensuring exceptional customer experiences, and managing financial processes in compliance with legal and operational standards. This role engages with potential portfolio companies, supporting companies throughout their residency, and fostering positive customer relationships. The ideal candidate possesses a blend of operational, financial, and customer-centric skills, along with the ability to adapt in dynamic environments while maintaining attention to detail and collaboration with various stakeholders. The Business Development Operations Manager will integrate and streamline business activities, achieve business goals through set strategies, and have a positive impact on staff productivity. Additionally, assisting in the support of site operations, accommodating the special needs of site staff, all while supporting the culture at JLABS Korea. 

Responsibilities :

  • Develops strong relationships with key operational leadership by spending time understanding their goals and business objectives and leverages data to improve their results.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and prospect companies to identify and triage opportunities and support diligence activities.
  • Provides analysis on healthcare market trends / industry landscape and develop actionable analyses and recommendations based on research.
  • Works to develop ways to capture data more efficiently over time to ensure sustainable process.
  • Work with team on process definition, promotion, and governance required to meet KPI objectives and goals
  • Define critical success factors and key performance indicators (KPI) for the processes.
  • Be accountable for metrics tracking and reporting related to the pipeline and portfolio
  • Analyzes trends, causes, and variances and creates and distributes routine and ad-hoc reports
  • Create weekly and monthly reports with internal KPIs such as volumes, utilization, and overall performance to report out to the operations and JLABS Korea leadership.
  • Responsible for developing and creating ad hoc reporting of metrics and strategic initiatives as needed.
  • Performs analyses of metrics to identify trends as well as areas of immediate concern and escalates to management attention, as necessary.
  • Applies learnings from reports / analytics to the operations organization to foster an environment of continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Proactively resolves data issues across systems to ensure reporting is accurate and timely.
  • Lead the process for Regulatory and Government reporting for JLABS Korea and/or local requirements and data gathering of metrics such as job creations, funding, and partnerships on an annual basis to support reporting and audit requirements. You will collaborate with state and/or regulatory entities and internal key stakeholders including Finance to maintain a database that provides the information to supplement the findings presented in the annual report.
  • Increases revenue for the business by selling vendor sponsorships and building a network of external providers that help deliver benefits that reduce the cost of doing business of JLABS Companies
  • Proactively interact with the JLABS team including Korea, Regional and Global
  • Administrative support to the Head of JLABS, Korea (travel, expenses, scheduling, meetings, special projects, etc.)
  • Actively supporting relationship management that could include sourcing, reviewing, contracting, onboarding, offboarding and continued follow-up (Alumni)
  • Lead and own the Company Onboarding process from start to finish while ensuring a smooth and positive overall customer experience. This includes execution of contracts, agreements, documents, and orientation.
  • Lead and manage the Company off-boarding process including internal J&J notifications, and documentation close out. Continue to manage communications with alumni companies as needed.
  • Responsible for ensuring overall customer satisfaction through the effective management of the customer service function and technology platform, the JLABS Help Center.
  • Project Support:
  • o Support site and strategic projects as needed
  • o Drive a culture of continuous improvement to streamline, simplify, standardize, and automate processes: identify and execute on opportunities
  • o Support portfolio data management
  • Oversee the onboarding process and be in charge of all the onboarding procedures for new JLABS team members.

Qualifications - External

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related discipline is required.
  • Bilingual, fluent in Korean and English
  • Experience and familiarity in the life sciences industry is required
  • At least 5-8 years of industry experience including 5 years of business development/sourcing/data management/regulatory and government reporting, relevant professional experience is required.
  • Advanced user of MS Excel (Macros, Pivot tables, Vlookups, PowerPivot), Word, and PPT.
  • Experience writing macros
  • Experience working with leading BI visualization tools
  • A successful candidate will be willing to roll up his/her sleeves to dive into the details and resolve issues by establishing the root cause.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and strategic thinking skills including the ability to prioritize.
  • Strong business background to develop data visualization and analytics to provide actionable insights for operations and management decision making.
  • Pays close attention to detail, questions strange events and resolves ambiguous situations.
  • Strong understanding of tools used to extract and analyze data.
  • Comfortable taking information from disparate systems to bring data elements together for meaningful insights.
  • Analyze and solve business problems at their root, stepping back to understand the broader context.
  • High sense of urgency and ability to prioritize competing requirements in a fast-paced environment.
  • A self-starter who knows when to seek guidance and collaborate with team members.
  • Work with outside partners, customers, or media.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills is required
  • Demonstrated organization skills with ability to multi-task is required

  • Project/process management experience is preferred
  • Experience working with and managing vendors, consultants, and budgets is preferred
