Summary

Save the Children Action Network (“SCAN”) is a 501(c)(4) organization. As the political advocacy arm of Save the Children, we are building bipartisan support to make sure every child has a strong start in life. SCAN is seeking a Lead Associate for national volunteer engagement. In this role, you will be responsible for developing advocacy infrastructure in both remotely staffed states and supported states by identifying, cultivating, and organizing SCAN supporters and volunteers. In partnership with the State & National Campaigns team, you will help assess our supporter base, determining key audiences and demographic segments to target, selecting strategies (both online and offline), to educate and engage targeted individuals and groups to meet our annual goals and deliverables.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Build, develop and sustain an advocacy and campaigning infrastructure and SCAN presence in SCANs Remotely Staffed States (60%)

  • Assess Save the Children Action Network’s volunteer supporter base, determine key audiences and demographic segments to target, selecting strategies both online and offline to educate and engage targeted individuals and groups to meet our annual goals and deliverables.
  • Recruit, engage and maintain supporter bases in priority states, which currently include Arkansas, Idaho, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Engage supporters in online and offline activities, such as letters, phone calls, petitions, social media, in-person meetings, letters to the editor, etc.
  • Create and/or sustain state volunteer teams to coordinate national legislative campaigns.
  • Work collaboratively with SCAN’s student engagement team to build student clubs on targeted college campuses and support the outreach and advocacy efforts of college and high school student ambassadors.
  • Facilitate training and provide ongoing support for volunteer leadership development with the support of SCAN’s Volunteer Leader and Training team.
  • Engage with coalition partners and community stakeholders.
  • Promote SCAN’s agenda in coordination with partners by collaborating on events, outreach, and other local engagements.

Manage the infrastructure for SCAN’s national Volunteer Program (40%)

  • Identify inter-departmental cross-over opportunities and incorporate them into volunteer recruitment plans.
  • Collaborate on the creation and execution of a national volunteer communication strategy inclusive of social media, email, one-on-one volunteer call, webinars, and SCAN’s Monthly Volunteer Calls.
  • Work closely with Campaigns, Training and Peer-to-Peer fundraising team to identify priorities for volunteer engagement, including advocacy campaigns and signature events.
  • Manage volunteer data, ensuring accurate reporting.
  • Monitor trends and best practices in volunteerism amongst our peers and other organizations.
  • Work collaboratively with the Leadership Development team to develop a training curriculum to move volunteers up the ladder of engagement, either in fundraising and/or advocacy on national campaigns.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent, plus at least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite and social media
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Experience with grassroots legislative advocacy on federal policy. 
  • Experience supporting volunteers in a hybrid (remote and in-person) capacity. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate successfully with individuals and teams at all levels.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% to priority districts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on state legislative or electoral campaigns.
  • Experience in campus and youth outreach and engagement campaigns.

This position may require the incumbent to operate a motor vehicle to fulfill certain essential functions of the job. The incumbent should maintain a valid driver’s license and remain in compliance with any Save the Children policies pertaining to the safe operation of motor vehicles.

Compensation

Save the Children Action Network pays the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

  • Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $66,300 – $74,100 base salary
  • Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $60,350 – $67,450 base salary
  • Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $54,400 – $60,800 base salary

The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here). Employee may be eligible for an incentive program.
