About the Role

The Safety & Insurance Litigation team oversees and manages litigation and claims arising out of Uber's insurance policies. In doing so, the team works hand-in-hand with our insurance partners and outside counsel to drive solutions and innovate. The Safety & Insurance Litigation team also works across Uber's business teams to evaluate and manage risk. The team is currently searching for a Safety & Insurance Special Matters Paralegal to provide crucial support to in-house attorneys.

What You’ll Do

  • Consult and assist attorneys on specific case needs, particularly related to general liability litigation, including mass torts that Uber defends.
  • Respond to requests from outside counsel and insurers.
  • Review, analyze, and respond to tort litigation in the United States and Canada.
  • Perform complex data analytics in a time-sensitive and confidential nature.
  • Project manage across the Special Matters team to ensure matters are executed efficiently.
  • Identify and implement process, reporting, and document enhancements to improve workflow. Enhancements could include tracking systems and reporting templates.
  • Maintain resources for the team that identify and communicate the scope of projects, deadlines, and reporting.
  • Perform collection, processing, and analysis of collected ESI and delivered processed data and reports in a timely fashion.
  • Collect and prepare discovery documents for counsel (internal and external) review and production.
  • Analyze, issue spot, and escalate inquiries when necessary.
  • Perform file management, including fact investigation and preservation.
  • Analyze discovery for responsiveness, relevance, and objections.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of paralegal experience in either a defense firm or insurance company with file and portfolio management experience.
  • Experience with eDiscovery systems/tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on general liability matters and mass torts is a plus!
  • Ability to review and organize litigation documents in complex legal matters.
  • Proven ability to track complex projects across the team and keep people focused on mission and deadlines.
  • The ability to juggle multiple projects at a time in an exciting, fast-paced environment, both collaborating as a team to stay in sync and working independently to get the job done.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and highly collaborative with both business leaders and cross-functional partners, with a strong ability to build relationships, gain credibility, and partner with others.
  • Technical know-how with at least an intermediate level of computer skills, including a working knowledge of Google suite, Excel, Word, Adobe, Box and other web-based applications.
  • Self-motivation with a strong affinity for vision setting, strategic problem solving, and driving action.
  • Excellent business judgment and great communication skills.
  • Embody the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and accountability.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$110,000 per year - USD$122,000 per year.
