Financial Reporting & Control Associate, Operations
Bridgewater Associates is focused on understanding how the world works. By having the deepest possible understanding of the global economy and financial markets, and translating that understanding into great portfolios and strategic partnerships with institutional clients, we've built a distinct track record of success. We've done this for more than 40 years by having great people operate in a culture of radical truth and radical transparency. Today, we manage about $160 billion for approximately 350 of the largest and most sophisticated global institutional clients including public and corporate pension funds, university endowments, charitable foundations, supranational agencies, sovereign wealth funds, and central banks.
Our department manages Bridgewater’s post-trade flow — enabling our investment engine to run and our clients, regulators, and other stakeholders to reach their goals. We support the trade lifecycle and portfolio valuation as well as the collateral management and reporting partnerships between external providers and internal processes. We also oversee the information exchange across the portfolio management and client reporting groups. As operators of Bridgewater’s proprietary portfolio accounting system, we work to guarantee its integrity and continued accuracy through constant vigilance.
The Financial Reporting & Control group within the Operations Dept. is responsible for protecting Bridgewater and its investors’ interests as they relate to the funds’ financial and regulatory reporting, as well as their external audits. This includes ensuring (1) the annual financial filing requirements of Bridgewater funds are completed accurately and on time; (2) periodic accounting related regulatory deliverables of the Bridgewater funds and separately managed accounts are also completed accurately and on time; and (3) high quality client service for Bridgewater fund investors and clients with separately managed accounts.
We are looking for an Associate who will take a true ownership role within the group and drive strategic initiatives forward. This is a role for an accounting professional with financial reporting experience that can be used to support the oversight and review of fund and investor-driven client deliverables, such as financial statements, and other ad-hoc projects as required. The role will build on experience in U.S. GAAP and fund regulatory compliance skill sets, and provides opportunity for exposure to a number of functional areas and senior individuals that are internal consumers of the financial information (e.g., Client Service, Legal, Compliance, etc.).
The role requires an academic background in Accounting, knowledge and experience with U.S. GAAP and its proper application in financial reporting. Familiarity with best practices in line with the accounting and auditing guidelines for investment companies as well as regulatory reporting requirements relevant to investment companies are not required but would be a plus. The candidate should have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills as the candidate will deal frequently with other Bridgewater groups as well as external parties, such as the funds’ external auditor and administrators. The role also requires sharp attention to detail and the ability to prioritize multiple items effectively in a fast paced dynamic environment. A strong dedication to holding people accountable and understanding and improving existing processes and procedures along with a commitment to continuous development is essential. Responsibilities
