Job summary

The Red Hat Finance team is looking for a Senior Tax Manager to join us in Mumbai, India. In this role, you will be responsible for everything related to taxes within India. You’ll oversee all parts of the tax management process, including tax compliance, tax audits, and tax controversy management. You will also manage accounting for income taxes for financial reporting purposes, help with global expansion, mergers and acquisition due diligence, tax research and planning, research and development tax credits and other incentives. We’ll need you to be able to analyze potential tax legislation and review new tax rulings. Knowledge of international (APAC) tax is preferred.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor, and develop the Indian Tax department
  • Identify, plan, and implement strategies to minimize tax liabilities by studying tax regulations, and searching out and evaluating tax options
  • Team with legal, business, and finance functions to identify tax planning opportunities, risks, and other tax related support during corporate restructuring and mergers and acquisitions activities in India
  • Regularly advise senior management on all company tax-related matters in the India
  • Provide critical insight to tax vice president and communicate directly with the US international tax director to manage global tax risk
  • Assist global transfer pricing leader in development and monitoring of critical transfer pricing methods and application in India to share global company profits while managing risk
  • Establish critical relationships and manage external and internal tax audits, including preparation of timely response to all inquiries, constant correspondence, and maintenance of required company records and reconciliation of all tax discrepancies
  • Mentor, coach, and manage India tax team
  • Ensure tax compliance and tax accounting requirements are met for India, including efficient management oversight of outsourced compliance and consulting arrangements with external service providers
  • Manage quarterly tax accounting provision for the India
  • Identify tax saving opportunities including tax holidays and tax planning in region
  • Team with US vice president tax and US international tax director to ensure compliance with global tax planning and effective tax rate management

Required skills

  • University degree in accounting; MBA or qualified accountant certification is a plus
  • 10+ years of relevant working experience managing corporate tax within India
  • Experience in managing tax authorities and tax audits
  • Experience with corporate and indirect tax issues in India
  • Understanding of preparation or review of tax accounting; knowledge of provisions ASC 740 is a plus

Experience with the following are considered a plus:

  • Managing tax issues, compliance, and accounting in multiple countries in Asia
  • Identifying, quantifying, and reporting tax reserves under FIN 48
  • Big 4 tax department
  • Managing tax team within a multinational corporation
