Brief Description/Job Summary:

The Purchasing Sr. Engineer will form an integral part of the Purchasing function in the achievement of Operational objectives. With a strong, solid background in purchasing and supply chain management, the candidate will take a proactive approach in reviewing current systems and procedures, making recommendations and implementing changes. The role is key to leading the Company forward in securing quality suppliers of materials and components, covering price, delivery and quality targets.

The Purchasing Sr. Engineer will report to the General Manager Purchase and will support the whole purchasing team to achieve targets set.  The role will have a clear project focus, supporting the purchasing function at a strategic level to help achieve objectives required to aid production of existing and new product development as well as to achieve the revenue targets set by the management.


Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

Job Responsibilities: List the essential functions and major activities in order of their importance

  • Ensure parts and materials are bought at the most competitive price and delivered on time for production that to within the estimated cost.
  • Establish strategic relationships with key suppliers (probably turnkey including design) who are aligned to the company's needs.
  • Identify new suppliers, agree terms and negotiate supply agreements where appropriate, including discount structures and volume rebates.
  • Work with Sales & Commercial Operations team in estimating tender bids.
  • Provide “should costing” support to the Sales team, help develop most accurate cost sheet for Customer quotations.
  • Early involvement in the Projects right from bid stage; develop supplier strategy specific to project.
  • Continually improve purchasing methods and drive down external spends.
  • Supplier visits at very short notice.
  • Ability to understand various material standards like IS, DIN, ASTM as well as to have knowledge of various metallurgy such as Stainless steel, Carbon steel, various type of plastics, etc.
  • Must have worked on different type of fabrication across various material grade, plus exposure on machining.
  • Coordination with Suppliers, site contractors and Projects team on efficient delivery and installation of electromechanical equipment/ s at site.


Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

Minimum professional and educational background desired (include years of experience).

  • Degree /Diploma qualified – Mechanical/Chemical Engineer.
  • Minimum 8-10 years previous experience in a Purchasing role
  • High competency level in use of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, as a minimum)
  • Proven track record of controlling and reducing external spend whilst developing a robust supplier base.
  • Fully conversant with modern procurement and purchasing techniques.
  • Experience of Purchasing as per the scope, manufactured parts including scheduled deliveries. Experience of working with MRP systems is essential.
  • Management and coordination of Purchasing activities with relation to Cost, Delivery and Quality performance
  • Coordinating and managing with Quality personnel, resolutions to Supplier Quality concerns, ensuring timely and effective containment and long term resolution of each concern
  • Mentoring new starters, providing 'on the job' training to existing team members, and ensuring that the team are satisfactorily supported in their day to day work activities
  • Continuous development of self and individual team members
  • Analytical Skills: Procurement Sr. Engineer will work with multiple vendors to determine the best deals for the company, and have to evaluate the many pros and cons of each, based on price, quality, speed of delivery and other factors.
  • Math Skills: Basic math skills will be needed to analyze prices and get the best deals possible.
  • Negotiating Skills: Procurement Sr. Engineer will be working with suppliers to create the best deals. Negotiating skills will help create those deals.
