We are seeking a hands-on Senior Director of Hardware Engineering. You should be deeply rooted in the robotics domain and possess a holistic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and industrial contexts. What we do 

The Hardware Engineering organization is responsible for the Mechanical, Structural, and Electrical Engineering of the Symbot and the Structure, System Layout, and Electrical Distribution Systems. We tackle complex hardware challenges, ensuring our designs are both innovative and practical. Our focus is on developing robust robotic systems, incorporating industrial elements like PLCs and motor systems to ensure real-world applicability. We foster collaboration between hardware and software teams for seamless integration, align our department's goals with the company's vision, and continuously engage with customers to ensure project alignment. Staying abreast of the latest in robotics and industrial applications, we are committed to pushing the boundaries of what's possible in hardware engineering for robotics. 

What you’ll do 

  • Technical Leadership: Dive deep into complex hardware challenges, providing hands-on technical guidance and solutions. Ensure our robotic designs are both innovative and feasible. 
  • Team Oversight: Lead, mentor, and grow the hardware engineering team, ensuring a blend of creativity and discipline in every project. 
  • Robotic Design Excellence: Ensure our robotic solutions are mechanically and electrically sound, backed by meticulous design, rigorous testing, and iterative refinement. 
  • Industrial Acumen: Integrate an industrial perspective into our designs, focusing on aspects like PLCs, motor systems, drives, and conveyance mechanisms to ensure our robotics can thrive in real-world industrial environments. 
  • Software Synergy: Foster a strong collaboration between hardware and software teams. Ensure high-level and low-level software integration aligns seamlessly with hardware functionalities. 
  • Strategic Planning: Set the direction for the hardware engineering department, ensuring alignment with the company's overarching vision and goals. 
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Regularly liaise with other department heads, executives, and external partners to align on project objectives, deliverables, and timelines. 
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in robotics, mechanical design, and industrial applications. 
  • 25% travel may be required. 

What you’ll need 

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Robotics, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred. 
  • 12+ years of experience in hardware engineering, with significant expertise in robotics and/or automotive sectors, encompassing areas such as systems integration, sensor technology, and autonomous systems. 
  • 5 plus years of experience in leading a team of managers and team members. 
  • Proven experience in designing and deploying industrial robotic solutions. 
  • Hands-on expertise in mechanical and industrial design, particularly PLCs, motor systems, drives, and conveyance mechanisms. 
  • Deep understanding of the robotics field, both from a mechanical and software perspective. 
  • Familiarity with high-level and low-level software integration in robotic systems. 
  • Demonstrated leadership with a hands-on approach, ensuring practical and efficient solutions. 
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of fostering collaboration and navigating complex organizational structures. 
  • Certifications or additional training in industrial systems, PLC programming, and conveyance systems (preferred, not required).
