MAIN PURPOSE

The Ireland Business Development Manager is responsible for identifying business opportunities and developing customer relationships with clients across a range of sectors to ensure long term volume growth. The role is responsible for client management to maximise potential and working closely with the customer service team to ensure a smooth transition of accounts. It is a key requirement to manage and work effectively with all other members of the commercial and trade teams to maximise the success of attracting and maintaining throughput across trade areas as well as communicating and reporting as required.

MAIN RESPONSBILITIES

  • Achieve budget targets on revenue and volume for relevant accounts.
  • Manage Business pipeline to increase sales.
  • Identify new business opportunities and follow up new sales leads to secure the success of the business.
  • Establish and maintain excellent customer relationships to ensure Containerships achieve an optimum throughput from each individual customer including regular visits to customer’s own premises.
  • Develop effective methods of reporting and analysing revenue and volume and ensure any customer issues are dealt with in a timely way and communicated to relevant personnel.
  • Assist in the marketing and PR of the company by representing Containerships at relevant functions, workshops, and exhibitions.
  • Ensure the smooth transition of accounts to the customer service team through good communication both internally and externally.
  • Create and promote a customer-service culture across the business by working closely with colleagues across the group on issues and opportunities.

KPIS/MEASURES/LIMITS OF AUTHORITY FOR ROLE

  • Increase overall sales volumes and number of accounts.
  • Increase number of successful tenders
  • Enhance customer relationships and service levels through regular visits/contact.
  • Produce monthly updates on key data, analysis of volume and revenue, sales activity, and business opportunities/threats.
  • Sales Call – to action a minimum of 20 proactive Sales Call each week.
  • Sales Visit- To action a minimum of 8-10 sales visit each week
  • Sales Lead – To action a minimum of 5 Sales lead per week
  • Market Identification of assigned customers
  • Proactively sell VAS at every opportunity
  • 5000 TEU New Business generation in Year 1
  • All customer interactions to be updated within CRM

KEY COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • In-depth knowledge of short sea shipping / EU Ro/Ro Markets.
  • Extensive knowledge of the trailer market in Ireland & EU.
  • Technical skills in developing specialist supply chain networks.
  • Demonstrated experience in sales environment.
  • Front-line account visit experience.
  • Good communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Proven development skills ie, sales and marketing planning.
  • Adaptable, flexible, and solutions-driven with sound decision-making skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Strong presentation skills.

PRACTICAL & TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Strong commercial/sales background with proven negotiating skills.
  • Shipping or Logistics company experience including European supply chain.
  • Understanding of systems to extract and interpret sales data.
  • Disciplined in meeting timed deadlines and set targets.
  • Effective team player.
  • Proven innovative experience to build network solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Business graduate or experienced sales manager within the shipping industry.
  • Full Clean driving Licence essential.
