Credit and Fraud Risk (CFR) Risk Manager – Operational Excellence and Risk Remediation

Description –

The Credit and Fraud Risk (CFR) Operational Risk Excellence team is part of the First Line of Defense with respect to Operational Risk and Risk Strategy Remediation functionality. Within the realm of CFR Operational Risk, the Risk Strategy Remediation team (RSRT) is responsible for managing analysis and remediation of adverse actions which may have been caused by Operational Risk Events that require a Corrective Action Plan (CAP). The scope of the team’s responsibility is CAPs which have impacted U.S. Consumer and Small Business Cardmembers. 

This role manages multiple CAPs with short and fixed deadlines. Successful management of CAPs requires working closely with cross-functional teams including CFR, Banking, Compliance, Technologies, Servicing and non-CFR Operational Risk. As a part of successful partnerships with other teams, this candidate will be required to influence without direct authority. The skills needed to manage a RSRT portfolio include strong communication skills, proven ability to think analytically, the ability to understand a technical products, high-level understanding of Risk decision-making and strong project management skills. 

In addition to managing a portfolio of CAPs, this is a people leadership role. The ideal candidate will have people-leader experience and must have the ability to develop colleagues while achieving team goals. 

Strong candidates for this position will possess the ability to understand process; design, development, and management. Scope of responsibilities includes process optimization using flow charts, technical development methods, testing discipline, adapting and improving procedures and deploying quality controls in a way that increases efficiencies while also complying with policies and protocols. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage self and direct reports to flawlessly execute the Risk Remediation processes
  • Influence colleagues outside of team and without authority in order to deliver goals
  • Manage in a challenging environment while adhering to CAP standards and milestones
  • Write High Level Business Requirements based on need.
  • Clear, effective written and oral communication skills and ability to influence across all levels of the organization. Ability to create written materials that will drive insights and alignment.
  • Identify and optimize process improvement opportunities, including automation, to create efficiencies and reduce potential errors
  • Provide CFR Risk Remediation consultative guidance to CAP stakeholders
  • Be a thought leader. Using sound judgement and ability to lead without direct authority to drive positive outcomes for customers and shareholders while ensuring strong focus on regulatory requirements and expectations 

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Econometrics, Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Business Management or Computer Science
  • Previous leadership experience of at least 2 years.
  • Ability to envision ways to leverage existing capabilities and data to reduce risk events and associated risk remediation efforts.
  • Ability to think strategically. Apply both quantitative methods and business insights to drive results.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities, multiple demands, ambiguity and rapid change.
  • Ability to build strong relationships in a cross-functional environment.
  • Strong prioritization, organization and project management skills.

Desirable

  • Advanced degree is preferred but not required given a suitable combination of formal education and work experience.
  • Credit/Fraud risk management experience and understanding of credit lifecycle is preferred.
  • Operational Risk knowledge and/or background is a plus.
  • Experience leading and influencing with, or without, direct authority
  • Programming experience (SAS, Java, Python, or HQL)
  • Experience with or strong understanding of technical development and process development methodologies such as Agile, Method I, Six Sigma Design
  • Prior experience in process reengineering is a plus.
