Software Engineer -  Career - Team Lead

JOB SUMMARY

The role of Team Lead provides an opportunity for a Software Engineer Career to add leadership and people management skills to the scope of their role with a view to moving towards a more people leadership type role. The role of team lead requires a solid technical background in order that technical expertise can be provided to more members of the team. The ability to work with and through others and a willingness to ensure more team members are supported and guided is also an important factor. It is expected that the team lead will bring good people management, leadership and coaching skills to this role.

The Team Lead will be responsible for supervising the work of others, guiding the technical efforts of the team to ensure delivery of our business objectives on time and with the best quality standards. The Team Lead will be responsible for ensuring the best technical approach and practices are applied in all phases of the application lifecycle.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the team to integrate test driven development and automated quality assurance testing.
  • Work within an Agile team to provide technical direction.
  • Perform code reviews.
  • Provide technical guidance/support for team members.
  • Ensure the team delivers on their objectives and individual goals are set and completed.
  • Provide non- technical support to team members.
  • Ensure regular one to one’s are held with team members.
  • Probation reviews are completed and any performance concerns are highlighted to the Development Manager for review and action.
  • Annual and Mid -Year reviews are completed.
  • Talent reviews are completed.
  • Coach more team members to improve their performance, confidence and competence.
  • Track and approve all absences via workday in line with current policies.
  • Attend meetings on behalf of the Development Manager as and when requested / appropriate.
  • Identify and resolve operational and / or team level organization problems.
  • Make team level decisions, raise concerns and be guided by the Development Manager, adhere to current policies, procedures and where needed co-ordinate with the People Services team or local HR Business Partner.
  • Develop plans and co-ordinates resources to meet operational objectives within area of responsibility.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Completed IT College Degree.
  • Lead the team to integrate test driven development and automated quality assurance testing.
  • Work within an Agile team to provide technical direction.
  • Make team level decisions, raise concerns and be guided by the Development Manager, adhere to current  policies, procedures and where needed co-ordinate with the People Services team or local HR Business Partner.
  • Have knowledge in the next technologies: Object Oriented Programming, Java, Spring Framework, Apache Kafka, Elastic Stack and Cassandra.
  • High English level required.
  • At least 4 years of experience in Java development.
  • Continuous delivery knowledge.
  • Nice to have: Hadoop, Amazon Web Services and Graphs Theory knowledge.
  • Effective team player.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to adapt and adjust to changing priorities.
