Managing Director, Enterprise Strategy & Execution – Business Enablement Office

About the Role

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Managing Director to lead our Business Enablement Office (BEO), a critical enterprise function that brings together IT, Innovation, Project Delivery, and Transformation. This role is responsible for translating enterprise strategy into coordinated execution, ensuring the company can deliver complex initiatives effectively, efficiently, and at scale.

The Managing Director of Business Enablement serves as a strategic partner to senior leadership, driving alignment between priorities, funding, governance, and delivery. This leader will build the operating model, governance structures, and portfolio management capabilities needed to enable enterprise execution, strengthen change adoption, and drive measurable business outcomes—all while reinforcing Burns & McDonnell’s values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety, and outstanding service.

What You’ll Do

Enterprise Strategy & Execution

  • Lead the Business Enablement strategy to support enterprise execution by translating leadership priorities into coordinated initiatives with clear ownership, outcomes, and accountability.
  • Develop and execute a strategic business plan for the Business Enablement Office aligned with company, Global Practices, and Regional Offices objectives.
  • Continuously improve the enterprise operating model to enable effective delivery of complex, cross‑functional initiatives at scale.

Portfolio, PMO & Governance Leadership

  • Establish and oversee the Business Enablement PMO and portfolio management processes to ensure strategy, funding, prioritization, and execution remain aligned.
  • Design and operate governance and decision‑making forums that provide leadership visibility, surface risks early, and enable timely, informed decisions.
  • Provide enterprise leadership with clear, consistent visibility into program performance, risks, dependencies, and value delivery across strategic initiatives.

Partnerships & Cross‑Enterprise Alignment

  • Partner closely with the CIO and IT, Innovation, Project Delivery, and Transformation leaders to ensure initiatives are coordinated and executed as one enterprise.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to ensure opportunities, investments, and initiatives are appropriately scoped, supported, and delivered.
  • Serve as a connector across functions, driving alignment and removing barriers to execution.

Change, Transformation & Value Realization

  • Support and strengthen the company’s change management and adoption capabilities so major initiatives and transformations are implemented effectively and sustained over time.
  • Ensure initiatives deliver intended business value through disciplined execution, performance tracking, and continuous improvement.
  • Champion a culture of clarity, accountability, and execution excellence across the enterprise.

People, Financial & Operational Leadership

  • Provide leadership to Business Enablement teams by setting direction, assigning work, reviewing performance, and ensuring effective utilization of resources.
  • Support recruitment, development, coaching, and retention of high‑performing talent across the Business Enablement Office.
  • Manage consolidated department budgets, oversee expenditures, and ensure financial performance aligns with strategic objectives.
  • Work with assigned IT Finance partner to prepare and present regular financial, portfolio, and performance reports to executive leadership.

Risk, Governance, & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to company policies, and enterprise governance processes.
  • Enforce compliance with company safety policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by CDTO and comply with all company policies and standards.

What We’re Looking For

  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise‑level strategy execution, PMO, portfolio management, or transformation functions.
  • Proven ability to translate strategy into coordinated execution across multiple functions.
  • Strong partnership and influence skills, with experience working closely with IT, Innovation, and delivery organizations.
  • Financial and operational acumen, including budgeting, investment prioritization, and performance measurement.
  • A change‑oriented leader who can guide organizations through complexity and sustain adoption over time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or a related field from an accredited program and 13 years of related professional consulting experience in complex industries required.
  • Previous leadership and/or management experience is preferable.
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.
  • Proven ability to develop business strategy and establish relationships with clients and staff.
  • Must possess strong project/process management skills and a strategic perspective.
  • Expert proficiency in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
