Purpose

Assist in the global retail concept implementation for all capital improvement projects, new store openings and remodels of existing spaces, ensuring a deliberate, impactful user experience for both our consumers and retail store teams. The Assistant Store Development Manager - Design is the leading expert in concept fixtures across all store formats and segments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop floorplans and consumer journey with guidance from the Store Development Manager, Design in consideration of global retail concepts guidelines and market specific targets and building codes.
  • Work with external vendors to ensure quality and consistency of fixturing across all store concepts and store segmentations to for front and back-of-house. 
  • In partnership with external vendors, create detailed fixture order lists inclusive of sales floor fixtures, Visual Merchandising fixtures and tools, In-Store Communications tools, hangers, and mannequins.
  • Work with Project team to secure fixture purchases from globally and locally approved vendors in compliance with company policies.
  • Support Store Teams with guidance and instruction on how to correctly use fixture packages by concept, format, and segment.
  • Build detailed floor layouts with options counts, category placement, to share with Buying/Planning and Marketing teams.
  • Work with local Buying/Planning team and Store team to ensure all store capacities are correctly communicated and documented. 
  • Execute drawing reviews, ensuring current drawing and concept standards are met for architectural drawings as related to all capital improvement projects, new store openings, and remodels of existing spaces.
  • Partner with Digital Sales Solutions and Project team to incorporate digital experience tools into design.
  • Ensure all project operations comply with Company, provincial and federal policies & regulations.
  • Evaluate each project after completion and implement process improvement opportunities and best practices.
  • Assist the Store Development Manager, Design in project research including but not limited to lighting, materials, and experiential components.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in software applications such as MS Office, AutoCAD (2D) is required.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of design processes; technical knowledge of building components and their function; experience with contract documents and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of general visual merchandising principles.
  • Strong team player with proven ability to work cross functionally to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Strong influencing and communications skills, with the ability to work effectively with all levels of business and third parties.
  • Ability to illustrate ideas, concepts and/or design direction.
  • Ability to coach and train retail store management, store associates and Retail Back Office counterparts.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of time (nationally, regionally).

Education and Experience 

  • A bachelor’s degree from a college or university, or a combination of education with equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in retail store development, design & construction management.
  • Bilingual in French & English is considered a plus
