Human Resources Business Partner

Reporting to the Human Resources Operations Manager in Canada, the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) will be responsible for providing consulting services for a dedicated clientele of managers and employees. This group includes technical, professional, and unionized employees specializing in different corporate branches.

The HRBP will act as a partner to the business sector by integrating HR strategy and providing advice and support to internal client groups, bringing added value to the company. The HRBP provides HR guidance and support through overseeing programs that cover several HR areas including workforce planning, talent and performance management, terminations, consolidation and mobilization of teams, work climate analysis in a change management context and labor relations issues and negotiations with unions training. The HRBP also works closely with the Recruitment Shared Service to ensure that recruitment needs are defined and supported throughout the talent acquisition process.

This role will be based in Toronto, ON.

Your role within the team:

  • Contribute to the business strategy by helping business leaders to identify, prioritize, and build organizational capabilities, behaviors, structures, and processes.
  • Establish effective working relationships and a business partnership based on trust, experience, and credibility with internal client group.
  • Provide coaching on key areas such as: Talent Review, Performance Management, recruitment, terminations, diversity and inclusion, compensation, employee development, employment equity, mobility, change management, team effectiveness.
  • Work with the Recruitment team and managers to ensure all aspects of the recruitment and selection process is supported (jointly review project staffing plans, reassignment, and staff availability lists etc.).
  • Manage high-risk labor relations issues (e.g., management of legal recourses, human rights and harassment investigations, workforce transformation initiatives, etc.) and represent the industry in legal proceedings, if necessary.
  • Provide advice and assistance to managers on the interpretation of collective agreements, labor laws, and the application of disciplinary and administrative measures.
  • Responsible to implement AtkinsRéalis and policies, processes, and practices. Help to build/establish policies, processes, and practices to assist the business and ensure effective operation of business.
  • Understand needs of the Company to provide proactive HR support and services aligned to those needs and to the Company’s mission, vision, values, and strategic / business plans.
  • Work on employee engagement initiatives to improve culture and retention of key talent.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • 5 to 7 years progressive generalist experience in HR, preferably with considerable exposure to performance management, program implementation and facilitation.
  • University Degree or completion of a Human Resources Management degree/diploma program from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Ability to work as the primary HR partner as part of a cross functional management team.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with clients at all levels of the organization and influence decisions.
  • Experience in a unionized environment and collective agreement negotiation will be considered an asset.
  • Ability to deal with competing priorities and manage time appropriately with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborative team player with demonstrated professional and emotional maturity and judgment to handle sensitive situations with diplomacy, tact, and high ethical standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (both written and oral) skills.
  • French oral and written skills will be considered a strong asset as the role interacts across Canada.
  • CHRL designation is preferred.
  • Experience working in Engineering Services and/or EPC environment is desirable.
