Position Overview

The Assistant Safety & Security Manager supports the development, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive safety and security programs across a commercial property portfolio. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, protects occupants and assets, and maintains a secure environment for tenants and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Program Management Assist in developing and implementing safety protocols, emergency response procedures, and risk mitigation strategies. Conduct regular safety inspections, identify hazards, and ensure corrective actions are completed promptly. Maintain safety documentation and incident reporting systems while coordinating with regulatory agencies during inspections and investigations.

Security Operations Oversight Support daily security operations including access control systems, surveillance monitoring, and security personnel coordination. Manage visitor management protocols and oversee after-hours building security procedures. Collaborate with law enforcement and emergency services as needed, while maintaining security incident logs and reports.

Emergency Preparedness Develop and update emergency action plans, evacuation procedures, and business continuity protocols. Organize and conduct emergency drills, training sessions, and tabletop exercises for building staff and tenants. Coordinate with local emergency services and maintain emergency supply inventories.

Compliance and Training Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, local fire codes, and building safety standards. Develop and deliver safety training programs for property management staff and tenants. Maintain required certifications and documentation for safety systems.

Vendor and Contractor Management Oversee safety protocols for contractors and service providers working on the property. Review and approve contractor safety plans, conduct safety orientations, and monitor compliance during work activities. Manage relationships with security vendors and service providers.

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in safety management, security operations, or facility management within commercial real estate environments. Bachelor’s degree in safety management, Security Management, or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Technical Skills Proficiency with access control systems, CCTV surveillance equipment, and building automation systems. Strong knowledge of safety and security software platforms. Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite and property management software systems.

Core Competencies Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to interface effectively with tenants, vendors, and emergency personnel. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail. Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work independently while supporting team objectives.

Physical Requirements

Ability to walk property extensively, climb stairs, and access all areas of buildings. Capability to respond to emergencies during non-business hours. Valid driver's license and ability to travel between multiple properties as needed.
