Brown Advisory’s Boston office is seeking a proactive and professional individual to serve as a Portfolio Analyst. Due to the complex nature of clients’ investment objectives and related service needs, Portfolio Analysts must be well versed in a broad range of investment disciplines and strategies. The position requires a high level of sophistication and flexibility in understanding and implementing diverse investment strategies.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Participate in portfolio management for balanced, multi‑asset portfolios tailored to each client’s objectives, including managing liquidity needs and analyzing equity, fixed income, and alternative investment exposures.
- Serve as the pod’s execution engine by ensuring data accuracy, timely trade execution, cash movements, and overall operational excellence in a fast‑paced investment environment. The role combines hands‑on portfolio implementation with analytical work across public, private, and alternative investments.
- Work within small, collaborative teams to design and implement customized investment strategies for multigenerational families and endowment and foundation clients. Responsibilities include supporting long‑term asset allocation development, evaluating approved investment vehicles, monitoring multi‑asset exposures, and enhancing the investment lineup.
- Produce high‑quality client materials such as investment analysis, performance reporting, attribution, risk assessments, and asset allocation updates. Monitor cash levels to support distributions, liquidity needs, and capital calls. Over time, take on increased autonomy and participate in client meetings and relationship‑building efforts.
- Balance independent ownership with collaborative problem‑solving, contributing to broader initiatives that improve portfolio construction methods and advance analytical and technological capabilities.
- Provide portfolio managers with the information and system support needed for daily decision‑making.
- Develop investment strategies in coordination with the Portfolio Management team and Investment Solutions Group.
- Assist in managing client relationships, including communication, trading, and coordination across Portfolio Managers, Strategic Advisors, Client Service, and Marketing.
Qualifications:
Successful candidates are driven to proactively support the Portfolio Manager(s) with whom they are teamed. They possess exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, are able to operate independently with a high level of direct responsibility, maintain strong ties to the various investment teams at the firm and participate actively in the analysis of new strategies. Portfolio Analysts are highly professional and unconditionally dedicated to delivering a first-class experience to clients.
Specific qualifications for the Portfolio Analyst position include:
- 2-4 years of experience required
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and interpersonal skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting or related subject
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel); Charles River and APX strongly preferred
- Ability to multi-task and establish priorities
- Ability to handle confidential material with utmost discretion
- A passion for financial markets
- Progress towards or completion of MBA, CFA and/or Equity Analyst experience preferred
- Ability to work in the Boston office

Salary: $85-100k. Commensurate with experience and location. Does not include bonus or long-term incentive eligibility (if applicable).
