Position Summary

The Enhanced Digital Learning Initiative (EDLI) at Michigan State University is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our team. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the advancement of educational practices through curriculum analytics and research. The successful candidate will focus on various aspects of curriculum, including curriculum analytics, learning analytics, curricular innovation, curriculum mapping, and program review. This role is well-suited for candidates on alternative academic (alt-ac) career paths, as the organizational culture and focus of EDLI align with diverse backgrounds and expertise.

This is a full-time, 12-month position with an appointment period of 2 years that reports to the EDLI Co-Director team. Successful candidates will work with the cross-disciplinary core EDLI team, consisting of members of the College of Arts & Letters, College of Natural Science, Broad College of Business, MSU Information Technology, and MSU Libraries. This is a diverse team of professionals dedicated to studying digital learning, educational innovation, and addressing challenges in the 21st century classroom and beyond.

Main areas of focus include:

  1. Classroom Research: Conduct mixed methods research on classroom practices in collaboration with educators to support student learning outcomes and faculty professional development
  2. Curriculum Mapping and Analytics: Engage in quantitative and qualitative research to analyze curriculum data and learning analytics to determine effectiveness and impact on learning outcomes. Contribute to curriculum mapping, aligning learning objectives, content, and assessment to advise program review and evaluation.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Assist faculty members with classroom research projects and interventions utilizing curriculum/learning analytics and evaluation
  • Lead or co-lead research teams on specific projects in curriculum analytics
  • Utilize both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies to investigate educational practices, curriculum design, and student outcomes.
  • Document successful completion of projects for adoption on campus, and publication and / or presentation more broadly

Doctorate

Minimum Requirements

  • Terminal degree (PhD, Ed.D., MLIS)
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development or instruction
  • Proficiency in research methodologies for educational research

Desired Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate for this position:
  • Is a recent graduate (5 years or less) of a Ph.D. program in any field
  • Has a high level of quantitative and/or qualitative research skills
  • Has a desire to pursue an engaging, creative career outside of traditional faculty pathways but within the academic environment. Experience with traditional classroom curriculum and learning settings
  • Experience or interest in working with co-curricular, experiential and other non-traditional learning settings
  • Strong background in curriculum analytics, learning analytics, classroom research, or related areas of educational research.
  • Familiarity with curriculum mapping approaches, program review processes, and/or curricular innovation strategies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in an environment that values diverse perspectives and approaches.
