Job Description

We're hiring a Process Design Engineer to be responsible for the Process Engineering function as it relates to capital projects. You will report to the Design Engineering Lead for our Americas South region. As a Process Design Engineer, you will direct, coordinate, and exercise functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of process scopes and related documents within area of assigned responsibility. In addition, you will coordinate activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design issues.

The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of process equipment design including pumps, heat exchangers, vessels, etc,.and have the ability to apply process tools to design piping systems, complete material and energy balances, and perform process optimization studies.

You must be able to be based at one of our US Grace locations, however, the ideal candidate will be located in the gulf coast region working from our Lake Charles, LA, Baton Rouge, LA, Pasadena, TX, manufacturing sites, or future Houston, TX office. Travel is project-specific and can accumulate up to 25% and may also include occasional international. 

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and approves process design changes and specifications.
  • Develops in collaboration with Process Technology, Business Units and Operations and assures adherence to a standard Basis of Design (BOD) package which includes Scope of Work, PFDs, P&ID’s and material balances.
  • Develops project studies to evaluate alternatives (technically and economically) and recommends the best solution.
  • Directing integration of process design activities and production requirements into capital projects
  • Develops front end packages.
  • Developing equipment and services bid documentation and reviewing vendor quotations and issues procurement recommendations.
  • Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
  • Evaluating EH&S design requirements and ensuring adherence to corporate policies
  • Participates as engineering representative in PHA’s (Process Hazard Analysis)
  • Leading/participating in various project and kickoff meetings throughout project life cycle.
  • Providing assistance in the development of the capital and operating budgets.
  • Supports start up activities from a process engineering perspective
  • Prioritizing workloads and effectively managing 3rd party engineering teams to execute assigned workloads.
  • Firm understanding and compliance to the Grace Project Methodology (GPM) process
  • Remaining up-to-date on all internally and externally driven training requirements
  • Ability to multi-task and adjust workloads due to changes in priority.

Physical Requirements

Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials

Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials

Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.

Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator

Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. Degree in an Engineering discipline, Chemical Engineering highly preferred
  • 5+ years' experience in process engineering/process design 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage and collaborate with different stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to25%, and may include occasional international 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Grace products and unit operations
  • Operations and process development experience
