The Crop Genome Engineering division of Genome Center of Excellence at Corteva Agriscience has an exciting opportunity for highly dedicated, motivated, and organized individual with a strong experience on optimizing protoplast extraction, transfection, and regeneration to fill a full-time position as Research Scientist. This Research Scientist position will be a key contributor to a research team for specialty crop genome editing projects. The candidate will work primarily in the lab, closely with other team members in a collaborative and cross-functional atmosphere to develop transgene-free genome editing technologies for specialty crops.

Responsibilities – What You Will Do:

  • Lead efforts in developing and implementing novel approaches to optimize specialty crop transformation using different types of explants, including but not limited to protoplast
  • Provide scientific expertise and work effectively as an individual contributor and collaboratively with team members and cross-functional teams
  • Participate in designing and executing new technology development or process improvement activities, including experimental plan, data collection and analysis, troubleshooting, maintaining and organizing detailed research records
  • Regular and clear communicate your research progress and results to both team members and leadership
  • Follow company safety policies, protocols, and procedures, and ensure a safe working environment for self and team members

Qualifications

Requirements – What Skills You Need:

  • Ph.D. in biological science such as molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, and biotechnology with 1-4 years of postdoc experience in relevant plant biology field
  • Proven track record of success on executing multi-crop transformation research projects, especially specialty crops
  • Excellent knowledge in plant tissue culture and hands-on experience in optimizing protoplast extraction, transfection and regeneration
  • Excellent knowledge in molecular biology, plant gene expression and transformation vector technologies
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with team members and cross-functional teams
  • Ability to multi-task and take on new assignments as necessary
  • Excellent planner, organizer, critical thinker, and problem solver, with a demonstrated ability to efficiently execute project tasks
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
