At Amazon/AWS, we take MySQL databases to their limits. We see issues that no other MySQL customers see. We are creatively and disruptively solving some of the most complex database problems related to immense growth, scaling, leveraging the cloud, extremely high performance and high availability requirements. Do these types of challenges excite you? if so, the Identity and Access Management team in AWS is currently looking for a talented MySQL database administrator with 8+ years experience for its Seattle office. The DBA will perform administration and engineering for multiple production databases. The ideal candidate will be responsible for fast-paced complex distributed database environments supporting primarily MySQL on a Linux platform. Successful candidates will have the ability to rapidly troubleshoot complex technical problems under pressure.

Deep knowledge of MySQL internals.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Experience with other Data Persistence platforms: RDBMS (Oracle, Postgres**), NoSQL, Hadoop, Data and Software Migration off/to RDBMS, AWS DBs (RDS, DynamoDB, EMR, Redshift, Aurora, etc.), Data Information Lifecycle Management, Data Security, Big Data ....
Review, design and develop data models in conjunction with the application development teams
Design, develop, and implement Oracle database instances for the development and production environments

Basic Qualifications

- 8+ years of MySQL DBA experience on Unix/Linux
- Experience with MySQL 5.0 and above for at-least 1 to 2 years on Unix/Linux
- Experience with Oracle data guard and replication
- Working knowledge of DBA best practices (e.g., schema management, index optimization)
- Query and database tuning skills
- Capacity monitoring and management capabilities
- UNIX shell scripting and SQL skills
- Troubleshooting and resolution skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities
- Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with DBA community and application teams
- On-call for production databases - daily maintenance, monitoring, problem resolution and internal customer and dev support
- Root cause analysis of production-related database issues
- BS in computer science or related field


Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in Linux is a plus
- Strong working knowledge of MySQL DBA best practices (e.g., schema management, index optimization)
- Strong query and database tuning skills
- Capacity monitoring and management capabilities
- Extensive UNIX shell scripting, and SQL skills.
- Highly self-motivated to solve complex problems efficiently.
- Fast troubleshooting and resolution skills
- Extensive experience with high-volume and scalable database systems.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities.
- Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with DBA community and application teams
