The Administrative Nurse is responsible for oversight of medication management within residential programs and when delegated, will assist Client Care Coordinators with medical issues and medical trainings, including medication administration. This position requires travel to all residential programs to support medication and medical requirements.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30a - 5:00p

Responsibilities

  • Provide holistic nursing care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Observe, assess, and evaluate the health needs of the people we support
  • Coordinate preventative and routine medical care for people supported
  • Document nursing care provided
  • Provide clinical supervision or oversight for licensed practical nurses and med techs as deemed necessary
  • Assist with educational and training programs for new employees to include planning, conducting, and scheduling in a timely manner
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations and develop performance improvement plans
  • Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
  • Assist physicians with on-site medical clinics where applicable
  • Provide health related trainings to unlicensed personnel
  • Teach medication administration training to unlicensed personnel when state law allows
  • Conduct medication pass observations in the home to ensure staff competency
  • Complete skill competency checklists on delegated healthcare tasks
  • Teach the people we serve to monitor their health
  • Provide medication administration training to people who are able to self-administer medications
  • Conduct medication closest assessments
  • Perform quality assurance checks and observations to ensure unlicensed personnel are performing health related tasks as assigned
  • Conduct routine nursing assessments
  • Observe for and report any abnormal health related findings to the physician
  • Communicate with physicians, pharmacies, medical suppliers, and the Interdisciplinary Team
  • Advocate for the people supported and assist with developing community supports to promote optimal health for the people supported

Required Education/Experience

  • Education- Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse;
  • Experience- One (1) year in the human services field working with individuals with intellectual disabilities and/or mental health disorders

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • RN license
  • Valid driver’s license

Other requirements:

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient computer skills – Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook, ability to learn and navigate Electronic Medical Records and various database applications for employee training
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with consumers, families, treatment team members, and other personnel involved in consumer treatment
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
  • Must possess strong assessment skills, knowledge of medical procedures, terminology and equipment
