The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for a Cell Therapy Scientist to join the team based in Cambridge. In this position you’ll be supporting cell and gene therapy pre-clinical studies, have exposure to various R&D project and performing cellular experiments.

This role will be a full-time, temporary position (12-months FTC) based in brand-new facility at the customer site - The Discovery Centre, Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge. Working hours: Monday to Friday, core hours 

The Team 

You'll work alongside 3 Cell Therapy Scientists, and be part of Cell & Gene Therapy Safety Sciences Group. The goal of CPSS Group is to develop innovative science solutions, to support oncology patients and ultimately eliminate cancer as a fatal disease. You’ll belong to our business department Lab and Product Services, which supports big pharmaceutical companies and laboratories all over the world, in Research and Development within the Life Sciences industry. 

What we're looking for 

  • Education: A Master’s or PhD Degree in cellular and molecular biology, immunology, toxicology or similar field or relevant lab based experience
  • Experience: 
  • Theoretical understanding of biology around novel targets and pathways to drive scientific testing
  • Proven experience in laboratory cellular biology techniques applied to cellular assays (including but not restricted to primary T-cell culture, flow cytometry)
  • Experience in techniques of Next Generation and long read Sequencing with Illumina and nanopore platform
  • Experience in therapy, viral production, transduction, flow cytometry and conducting PCR

How you'll thrive and create an impact 

  • Supporting, developing and implementing cell biology assays to aid safety assessment
  • Creating novel technologies to identifying genomic mutations following different gene editing strategies
  • Being responsible for producing Next Generation Sequencing libraries
  • Working with other scientists to support experimental studies for pre-clinical safety assessment of new cell therapy candidates
  • Carrying out administrative tasks associated with the research project. These might include organisation of project meetings or documentation, financial control, and risk assessment of research activities
