Health Communications Project Manager - Hybrid

Our client is seeking a Health Communications Project Manager (PM) to lead marketing, communications, public relations, and outreach initiatives for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) on topics related to mental health and substance use disorders. This individual will manage a new national initiative requiring strong management, project leadership, and staff direction abilities. The PM must have strong project management skills and experience, including budget, labor/task allocation, and thorough reporting. The PM will be a strategic advisor to SAMHSA and must be comfortable in client-facing management discussions. The PM will oversee execution of projects and partnerships while participating as a key member within our organization. The PM will be responsible for ensuring solid quality and client satisfaction across the contract tasks.

DUTIES

  • Provide project management and oversight services using industry standard and best-practice project management methods
  • Apply health communications best practices in the execution of project activities
  • Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders
  • Offer strategic counsel to ensure and improve project performance and client satisfaction
  • Manage team staff and subcontractors performing work
  • Plan, manage, coordinate, and report the status of all work
  • Support corporate business development activities
  • Conduct assessments (i.e., thorough task analysis with recommendations for continued improvement) at key milestones
  • Support the client in project governance
  • Actively participate in working sessions, as needed, with the client to accomplish tasks in support of the project
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager or supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 10 years of experience managing health communications programs
  • Experience successfully leading national health-oriented campaigns for diverse audience sectors
  • Understanding of the full range of behavioral health issues and approaches to prevention, treatment, and recovery
  • Knowledge of key communication tools including Salesforce, Constant Contact, Google Analytics, analytic dashboards, and others
  • Understanding of federal government communication requirements including plain language, Section 508 compliance, national culturally and linguistically appropriate services standards (CLAS Standards), and others
  • Subject matter expertise in behavioral health and communications best practices
  • Knowledge of and experience with SAMHSA centers, projects, strategic focus, and goals
  • Established contacts and connections with SAMHSA partners in the behavioral health field
  • Experience in managing and directing staff in a productive way, with an eye to developing and refining team skills
  • Ability to ask effective questions and adapt quickly to change
  • Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize, and delegate projects, and possess strong customer service and client management skills leading to high client satisfaction
  • Must be proficient in search engine optimization (SEO), Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Smartsheet, Trello, and other project management tools
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Team player with a willingness to support other efforts, as needed

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with SAMHSA on behavioral health issues
  • PMP or other project management certification
  • Master's degree in public health, communications, or a related field
  • Understanding of federal policy that leads to program funding and the requirements of agencies to respond effectively to policymakers.

Hybrid Schedule: Monday / Friday remote and Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday on-site.
