SUMMARY

The Paralegal will be primarily involved in the senior housing and independent living assets for Welltower’s Canadian portfolio. This role will include management of transactions and operations for the portfolio, in addition to engaging with outside counsel, internal working groups, and all company departments. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in real estate law, with a focus on senior housing and independent living assets. As a Paralegal, you will play a crucial role in supporting the legal aspects of our Canadian portfolio, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, facilitating transactions, and providing general legal support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understands the company’s entity management process and possesses ability to navigate complex organizational structures.
  • Provides support for day-to-day asset management of independent living operating platform, including reviewing vendor contracts, services agreements, and basic commercial contracts.
  • Handles routine legal matters such as waiver letters and miscellaneous correspondence, reports, and documents.
  • Coordinates collection and maintenance of documentation for change of regulatory ownership applications, licensure renewals, and related filings.
  • Reviews and processes legal and other third-party vendor/advisor invoices and manages relationships.
  • Researches state and federal statutes and regulations related to senior housing operations and licensure in Canada.
  • Provides support to legal department as needed.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Experience: At least 2+ years’ experience in legal transactions. Experience with entity creation, acquisitions, legal transactions including some experience with corporate law, licensing, and healthcare regulatory compliance.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field with 5 years’ experience, or Associate’s Degree with an additional 2 years (7+ years) of paralegal experience.
