The Director of International Enrollment Strategy and Admissions develops and implements the strategic international enrollment goals established by the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus (CU Denver | Anschutz) in alignment with each campus’ strategic enrollment management plan. The Director engages at the strategic and tactical levels by developing the international recruitment strategy and implementing international recruitment and enrollment plans by market in collaboration with the Office of International Affairs (OIA), the SVC for Strategic Enrollment and Student Success, the Associate Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management, and other CU Denver | Anschutz leadership. The Director oversees all operational-level business processes related to international recruitment and enrollment for international undergraduate students, and collaborates with the academic units and the ESL Academy to facilitate recruitment and enrollment of graduate and ESL students. With a commitment to service and equity, responsibilities include but are not limited to: leadership of the International Admissions unit, development and implementation of the international student recruitment strategy by global market, implementation of recruitment plans, oversight of prospect management, oversight of recruitment agent relationship management, oversight of admissions processing, oversight of yield strategies and tactics, and analysis on return on investment of student recruitment activities. The Director supervises application processing, including evaluation of foreign academic credentials and English language proficiency, and maintains and enforces university policies related to international student admission. The Director facilitates the effective use of information systems and technology to advance international student enrollment goals.

What you will do:

Leadership & General Administration (80% of time)

  • Exemplifies OIA values of empathy, advocacy, and learning.
  • Works closely with the Associate Vice Chancellor of OIA, the SVC of Strategic Enrollment and Student Success, and the Associate Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management to develop and coordinate international student enrollment growth for the university.
  • Actively participates in the ongoing development of the strategic enrollment management (SEM) plan for the university.
  • Develops the strategic international recruitment plan in alignment with the SEM plan. Leads the implementation of this plan through development of individual market recruitment plans.
  • Develops a portfolio of tactical modalities by market for international student recruitment.
  • Delivers a semiannual (once per fall and spring semester) ROI report and enrollment analysis of progress to CU Denver leadership on recruitment investments based on the strategic international recruitment plan. The Director identifies enrollment barriers and challenges by market, and provides recommended solutions and ideas of future actions.
  • Responsible for day-to-day oversight and effective execution of all operational level business processes related to international recruitment and admissions. This includes operational level oversight of:
  • Prospect management
  • Recruitment
  • Application processing
  • Evaluation of foreign academic credentials
  • Evaluation of English language proficiency
  • Awarding and management of recruitment scholarships and financial aid
  • Yield tactics
  • Effective use of information systems and technology
  • Maintains close and productive working relationships with key stakeholders on the CU Denver and CU Anschutz campuses, including the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management, Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Graduate Recruitment, Enrollment and Academic Services department, Student Success, academic Colleges and Schools, the CU Anschutz Graduate School, and the ESL Academy.
  • Provides strategic advice to academic units regarding international student recruitment.
  • Fiscal oversight for the annual International Admissions operating budget to fulfill strategic international enrollment priorities. Evaluates the ROI of student recruitment activities to maximize tuition revenue generated by international student enrollment.
  • Coordinates multiple admissions-related programs, activities and/or events, and makes professional presentations to diverse populations.
  • Models continuous business process improvement through the effective use of systems to streamline all aspects of international admissions, including management of prospect and applicant records, review of foreign academic credentials, evaluation of transfer credit, notification of admissions decisions, etc.
  • Monitors and ensures efficient processes are in place to evaluate foreign academic credentials for undergraduate and graduate student applicants, and that the intake, review, and decision-making is completed professionally and timely.
  • Collaborates with the Director of International Student & Scholar Services, the Director of International Operations, and the Director of the ESL Academy to facilitate a seamless interface with international admissions and to support international student enrollment yield.
  • Aligns international admissions practices with institutional admissions requirements.
  • Leads the creation of the international admissions customer service vision and goals, establishes metrics of success, and ensures remediation when needed.
  • Oversees the International Student Office front desk student staff to ensure that support for international students meets customer service best practices regardless of modality – in-person, phone, text, email, or other communication modalities.
  • Oversees operationalization of state and university policies related to Colorado residency status (tuition classification) for international students on the Denver campus
  • Collaborates with OIA’s Director of Marketing and Communications to produce market-relevant and compelling content for recruitment communications, including Web sites, print publications, social media, advertising, etc.
  • Supervises, leads, and collaborates with the International Enrollment Operations Manager to develop and implement service-oriented process and communication strategies to maximize yield outcomes.
  • Supervises, leads, and collaborates with the International Recruitment and Enrollment Coordinator for student recruitment activity and strategy, including partnerships with international recruitment agencies.
  • Mentors, supervises, coaches, and evaluates International Admissions professional staff.
  • Represents OIA and international admissions on university-wide committees, task forces, and working groups.
  • Represents CU Denver in professional organizations at the local, state, regional, national, and international levels.
  • Vets International Enrollment third-party providers for quality, efficacy, and cost. Generates proposals for investment with the goal of increasing efficiency and increasing enrollment outcomes.

Information Systems & Technology (20% of time)

  • Leads the strategic implementation of information systems and technology solutions to ensure delivery of strategic international enrollment goals.
  • Serves as a campus leader (super user) for Slate governance
  • Supervises the International Enrollment Operations Manager to implement IS and IT strategy for efficient and effective management of the international admissions prospect to enrollment funnel.
  • Collaborates with other administrative and academic offices throughout the University (Admissions, Registrars, Bursars, etc.) to represent the technology needs of International Admissions.
  • Leverages technology to reduce the workload of the office and to realize greater efficiencies in all aspects of operations.
  • Oversees the training of International Admissions staff on the effective and appropriate use of university systems for international student recruitment and admissions, credential evaluation, and English language proficiency evaluation
  • Generates reports and queries from Slate and CU-SIS to track IA’s activities and ensure effectiveness
  • Evaluates and employs social media and other technology platforms to recruit international students.

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in international business, international education, international affairs, international relations, a related field, or commensurate work experience.
  • 6 years of progressively responsible experience in international marketing, recruitment, and strategic enrollment management with experience leading a team of staff working in these areas

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master’s degree in international business, international education, international affairs, international relations, or a related field.
  • Experience in the use of Slate admissions system.
  • Experience overseeing all operational level details in an international admissions office, including international marketing, recruiting, and strategic enrollment management.
  • Experience in the use of admissions information systems (experience working with PeopleSoft highly desired) and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Experience with ESL programs and their interface with international recruitment and admissions.
  • Fluency in a foreign language.
  • Experience living and working abroad.

Conditions of Employment

  • This position follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely up to two days per week, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks requiring high collaboration.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $ 102,868 - $107,222.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
