The SC Johnson College of Business Career Management Center prepares undergraduate and graduate students across our three schools for a competitive job market with advising, workshops, networking, and access to appropriate tools/resources.

The Career Management Center at the SC Johnson College of Business plays a pivotal role in helping students and alumni achieve their career goals by providing comprehensive resources, personalized support, and invaluable networking opportunities. Dyson is a large and diverse school within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and is currently ranked number 3 in the Bloomberg BusinessWeek rankings. It includes a total of over 750 undergraduates, over 2000 minors and over 100 graduate students. With over 75 faculty, nationally and internationally known scholars in economics and business disciplines. The land-grant mission of the College, which encompasses research, education, and extension programs, allows for the creation and dissemination of knowledge that makes a difference for students, the citizens of New York, the nation, and people around the globe.

This Position:

The Associate Director of the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business Career Management Center will deliver a comprehensive career management model for undergraduate students. The position will report to the Managing Director of Career Management and will directly work with the over 800+ undergraduate students in the Dyson School. In addition to the comprehensive career management model, the Associate Director will drive the career development model to enhance the capabilities of candidates for careers in finance, consulting, marketing, analytics, and technology fields.

Key responsibilities for the Associate Director will include:

  • Providing one to one career advisement to undergraduate students within the College of Business community.
  • Effectively collaborating with administration, faculty, and students to ensure that program goals are met.
  • Working directly with student organizations to build synergies that deliver nationally recognized ‘best in class’ professional development programming.
  • Collecting employment outcomes for the College of Business community and working personally and collaboratively to ensure post-graduation outcomes are successfully achieved.
  • Maintaining a good understanding of employment status and trends among the student body.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with recruiters and alumni to support the career aspirations of College of Business students.
  • Monitoring program success through the use of survey data and making improvements that support key performance indicators in collaboration with the Director of the Career Management Center.
  • Partnering with student clubs and business fraternities to execute career management initiatives.
  • Developing and administering career-related testing and assessment.
  • Representing SC Johnson College of Business at on-site and off-site employer events, student career-exploration site visits, alumni and admissions events.
  • Envisioning and executing strategic plans that align with the changing dynamics of the job market.
  • Staying abreast of industry trends, understanding employer expectations, and formulating initiatives that enhance the competitiveness of SCJ students in the recruitment process.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and well-being.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members. 
  • A bachelor’s degree with two to four years of experience in working in a career services, student services or placement services environment.
  • Must be familiar with business school education, and functional areas like finance, accounting services, consulting, technology, and marketing.
  • Must have experience in working directly with college level students, and an ability to interface with corporate recruiters from across the globe.
  • Ability to work well with others while creating a high-quality and respectful work environment is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor and deliver results and measure opportunities for program improvement.
  • Experience that demonstrates sound judgment, creativity, management, and problem-solving skills and the ability to work well within a team of professionals.
  • Must be able to work independently while supporting the efforts of an overall team.
  • Must be able to navigate and effectively use software systems, such as Handshake, Canvas, and Salesforce.
  • Must be available to work occasional nights and weekends to support program goals.
  • Must be willing to travel at least five times on an annual basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in business or education is preferred.

This position is a full-time position based in Ithaca, New York. The position may allow for the flexibility to work remotely up to 2 days per week. The hybrid schedule will be determined at the time of hire. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.
