1st (Day) Shift
A creative and technically skilled designer responsible for:
•Developing designs from first concept through resolution of technical details.
•Liaison with manufacturers and development of final products.
•Initiating and pursuing self-started design proposals.
•Managing the design of all new 3D elements for the brand’s retail in Specialty Multi Channel (SMC) stores [display systems, gondola and end-cap designs, product layouts for ‘hero’ displays etc.] they will manage the timelines for projects, lead the design of all components – including collaborating very closely with marketing, graphic design, visual merchandising and production teams and liaise with regional teams to ensure successful and highest possible quality execution and production of the final designs.
•Overseeing the design and development of all new elements for our existing ‘in-house’ open sell and modular display systems and other projects.
•Assessment of Creative Requests and formulation of initial responses and design proposals
•Development and presentation of concept direction options for projects including material and construction detailing.
•Presentation of selected designs, detail specification to manufacturers of approved designs, liaison with engineers and manufacturers on development of prototypes, approval of samples.
•Supervision and mentoring of professional contingent, freelance designers and designers within the department.
•Effective time management, handling multiple projects effectively and within specified deadlines.
•Clear understanding of the essential requirements of each project, fast and effective development of multiple options in response to design briefs.
•Resolution of aesthetic and technical challenges, fine detailing of designs, management of close working relationships with other M.A.C and corporate teams and with external vendors.
Independence of Action and Accountability
•Proposals to be presented in outline [with construction and detailing indicated] to Industrial Design ED, Visual Merchandising SVP and Creative Director
•The Design Director will take responsibility for final detailing and specification of approved designs and for development of successful prototypes and final product.
•Responsibility for overall planning and management of specified projects including management of relevant team members, planning of workflow & time management, tracking and approval of prototypes and samples etc.
•No general departmental budget planning but responsible for ensuring that each of their design projects is developed within the budget guidelines and cost targets specified in the Creative Request.
•5+ year’s experience
•Extensive experience of designing display and merchandising solutions for retail, specifically in the Specialty Multi-Brand store context (specific experience of designing for beauty brands will be a significant advantage).
•Excellent all round knowledge of design and visual culture
•Clear understanding of the M.A.C brand ethos
•Excellent creative skills
•Ability to initiate
•Quickly and clearly communicate design concepts
•Excellent presentation skills specifically very strong Adobe Illustrator skills, some physical model making for both design development and presentation
•Excellent 3D CAD skills, particularly Rhino and Keyshot rendering software
•Very strong ability to successfully manage and cultivate working relationships and collaborate with colleagues and external partners
