ROLE SUMMARY:
We are seeking exceptional candidates with experience and passion to fill a Topic Expert position in BCG’s new product business. This global business is an integral part of BCG’s strategy to develop new digital client service offerings in order to deliver superior value and sustained impact. The unit has responsbilities for full-life cycle of BCG proprietary data and software assets, from initial business case to roadmap delivery, launch, and ongoing support operations. All of BCG’s core product capabilities are housed within the business unit including product management, design, development, support and data analytics experts who work in deep collaboration with BCG practice areas, clients and consulting teams. This team of highly motivated and insightful colleagues will provide an opportunity to work in an entrepreneurial, start-up environment supported by a global management consulting firm which is the world’s leading advisor on business strategy.
 
We are seeking a strong candidate with experience and passion to work in the Retail Banking domain in a client facing specialist role. The professional will join as Topic Expert (TE) within the BCG Knowledge Team with a focus on the Retail Banking Excellence Benchmarking. The TE will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of the benchmark among the European client base. Depending on seniority, the ideal candidate could also take responsibility over the management of some members of the European delivery team.

The candidate will leverage both internal and external resources including their own expertise and experience in end to end retail banking excellence to further develop and enhance our benchmarking.  The ideal candidate has experience in more than one retail banking functional area, including front office, product and segment management, finance, operations, digital channels and IT, obtained either through working at a retail bank or at a consulting company. The TE will be directly responsible for collecting, validating, analyzing, and generating reporting on benchmarking data from clients. This will require frequent contacts with our clients in Europe and potentially beyond – we estimate about 80% of the workload being client facing. He/she will lead efforts in filtering, synthesizing, packaging, and delivering benchmarking data into meaningful results for our benchmarking report, directly for the clients and for our consulting teams. Customization of the results to adapt them to specific client situations is one of the key responsibilities. Additionally, the role will require driving insights from the peer data specific for the participating client. Working closely with the REBEX Commercial Director for Europe in support of new client acquisition, client engagement and client delivery.

BCG has launched a Retail Banking Excellence (REBEX) initiative, with the objective of creating a comprehensive data suite and perspective on global retail banking, serving as a primary reference for senior bank executives globally. Its main component is an annual "end-to-end" benchmark of retail banks globally, covering a broad set of dimensions driving retail banks' profitability.

Basic Job Requirements

  • Bachelors' or Master's degree with demonstrated high academic achievement, preferably in business administration, finance, economics, statistics, mathematics or related fields
  • At least 10 years of relevant industry experience (or 5 of strategic consulting within Retail Banking). Candidates with less experience could be also considered in specific circumstances
  • Experience in more than one retail banking functional area, including some of the following: front office, product and segment management, finance, operations, digital channels and IT, obtained either through working at a retail bank or at a consulting company and deep experience in some of these fields
  • Excellent analytical & problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to communicate with all levels of seniority and with clients. Being ready to be in charge of contacting senior client representatives for the benchmark shortly after joining
  • Strong project management skills; ability to operate effectively in a matrix organization
  • Experience in presenting complex analysis and findings to senior management
  • Very good work ethic and service mentality
  • Strong, proven analytical and conceptual capabilities

Job Responsibilities

Deliver client facing benchmarking projects in retail banking. Be in charge of the client deliveries from the kick-off meeting to the customization of the final give back document.
 

Managing REBEX benchmarking analysis efforts, including client interactions, data gathering, data validation, insight generation and give back document preparation:

  • Project managing the delivery of REBEX’s benchmarking programs to ensure a smooth, on time process as well as the highest quality. This includes high quality deliverables with insightful and quantifiable conclusions to help clients to make decisions and take actions over identified opportunities
  • Managing client relationships during delivery phase: Be in direct contact with clients from different levels of seniority to explain the benchmarking methodology applied in REBEX , also in liaison with more senior members of the REBEX team and eventually consulting staff. Answer client queries about how to complete the questionnaire and what are the exact definitions applied in it, both through email and phone
  • Working with other team members to run the data validation phase of benchmarking efforts, authenticating data submissions alongside client contact
  • Leading efforts in cleansing, analyzing, and generating reporting on benchmarking data from clients
  • Managing client data releases and issue personalized performance reporting to clients based on analysis of submitted benchmarking data compared to other participating peers. Enable discussions with clients, where appropriate, on resulting action points of benchmarking outcomes and facilitate the participation of other BCG teams in these discussions
  • Keep an up to date reporting on all activities performed
  • Assume a leadership role in developing some parts of the methodology or the content or the way we deliver it to clients – in alignment with the global REBEX methodology
  • Present results of the benchmark to clients in senior meetings, where the key conclusions will be explained and disseminated 

Supporting Peer Group development

  • Provide support for new business development activities during the recruiting of benchmarking peer groups, developing of new markets and launching new products

Enriching casework and proposals with specialist insights from the REBEX initiative

  • Scoping benchmarking knowledge needs of case teams
  • Providing customized knowledge for client work and preparing accurate, well-developed documents and charts
  • Delivering original analyses and insights to consulting teams, providing thought partnership 

Lead teams

  • Advises, mentors and trains junior team members
  • Designs the on-boarding schedule and provides day-to-day apprenticeship and coaching for new team members with guidance from the global REBEX team
  • As the team grows, could line manage a team of analysts with responsibility for coaching, developing and improving the team’s individual and collective performance
  • Involved in recruiting process of more junior team members
