The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Senior Manager with an Applied Sciences background in Chemistry, Physics or Chemical, Mining or Mechanical Engineering to deliver exceptional advisory services to our clients across Vancouver and Western Canada.

Position Description:

As a Senior Manager in EY’s QS SRED practice. You will be part of a dynamic group of tax, audit, science, and technology professionals who work with companies of all sizes in a variety of industries, to help them maximize their tax credits and achieve their business objectives. If you want to be exposed to exciting Research and Development initiatives and learn from leaders in the field, this role is for you.

Responsibilities:

  • Meeting with pivotal client representatives including CEOs, CTOs, Technical Managers, and Engineers to evaluate their R&D projects and prepare SR&ED claims.
  • Assessing project's eligibility, establishing its value and overseeing the writing of technical project descriptions detailing the innovation and experimental activities.
  • Engaging in discussions on new prototypes, experimental trials, process improvements, and new product development for leading companies in Canada.
  • Be the principal point of contact to handle all queries related to incentives, ensuring clients are abreast of the most recent legislative developments and direct funding programs.
  • Supervise the execution of diverse corporate tax credit and incentives assignments, encompassing planning, compliance, and liaison with government authorities.
  • Lead, mentor, and coach a team to realize high levels of professional competence and execute tasks with precision.
  • Collaborate with internal financial experts to create robust and defensible claims.
  • Balance a portfolio of multinational clients and prioritize deadlines without compromising on exceptional client service.
  • Identify opportunities for tax planning and other specialized services, actively participate in market initiatives, networking events, and contribute to EY's thought leadership.

Your background includes:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in a relevant field of Applied Sciences such as Chemistry, Physics or Chemical, Mining or Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. A Graduate Degree is considered a strong asset.
  • Strong knowledge of the Mining, Forestry and or manufacturing sectors is preferred.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities paired with excellent interpersonal skills and underpinned by a client-centric approach.
  • The capacity to think creatively, deliver on-the-spot solutions to complex client issues, while handling pressure and strict deadlines with poise.
  • Prior work experience in Tax or Business Incentives, with a minimum of 10 years of technical writing experience for SRED claims, grant funding, or similar applications.
  • Prior work experience in the Mining, Forestry or Manufacturing sectors, with a minimum of 10 years of technical, operational experience would be highly regarded.
  • A demonstrated interest in emerging science and technology, coupled with a passion for promoting the growth of Canadian innovators in the mining, forestry and or manufacturing sectors.

The salary range for this job in British Columbia is $114,000 to $182,000. Individual salaries within this range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and work location city.
