Description:
Routinely performs all of the duties of a staff pharmacist but also utilizes a large amount of their assigned work time to a specialty area within the pharmacy that provides direct support or training for other staff. This position often requires odd work schedules, off site meetings, on-call time and weekend shifts in order to maintain software systems while not disrupting departmental operations.
What the Inpatient Pharmacist will do:
- Reviews, prepares and dispenses medication orders per physician order or prescription according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Ensures safe, appropriate, cost effective medication therapies for patients according to established policies, procedures and protocols.
- Contributes to the quality and effective operation of the department.
- Provides clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners. Suggests appropriate, cost-effective therapeutic alternatives to physicians, as needed.
- Provides drug information and counseling to patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in the training, education, precepting, and evaluation of pharmacy students and/or residents as assigned.
- Provides work direction to pharmacy support personnel, verifies the daily activities of pharmacy technicians.
What the Inpatient Pharmacist will need:
- Five year bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy.
- Specialist in one or more areas of expertise within the pharmacy such as pharmacy software maintenance, hardware upkeep, training of pharmacy personnel or communication with outside technical departments (TIS).
- Current registered pharmacist license and controlled substance license issued by the Michigan State Board of Pharmacy. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification may be required (at discretion of manager).
