Performs various routine support functions for the Institute including laundering scrubs, lab coats, and towels; collecting, washing, and replacing labware; transporting specimen/evidence; storing and retrieving specimen/evidence; driving to various County locations for pick-up and delivery of mail, supplies, etc.; answering the phone; copying and filing; providing assistance to Institute staff for special projects; and other functions.
1. Washes labware; keeps labware separated by laboratory; uses appropriate procedure based on type of item and soil level; picks up, washes, and replaces labware in all labs.
2. Transports, stores, and retrieves specimens/evidence.
3. Launders scrubs, lab coats, towels, etc.; uses appropriate procedure based on type and biological contamination of item; picks up, launder, and replace laundry; maintain supplies.
4. Picks-up and delivers mail, supplies, film, and other county business.
5. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience and Training:
Graduation from an accredited High School/GED Program. No experience required.
Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Must possess knowledge of chemical and biological safe handling procedures; good organizational skills, ability to work well with others. Ability to exhibit attention to detail, organizational skills, and an awareness of the special responsibilities of a forensic laboratory.
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
Routinely required to work in areas with potential exposure to biological and/or chemical hazards. Must follow good laboratory practices and safety precautions including the use of personal protective equipment. Manual dexterity and visual acuity sufficient to accurately execute standard procedures; standing, walking, folding, and moderate lifting are required; driving (valid Texas Drivers License required).
