Trades Specialist (Electrician)
Required Qualifications: Per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. Four years of full-time experience in the electrical trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in the electrical trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Electrician) traineeship or a two-year electrician training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program* such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program. Candidate must be able to perform physical tasks of position such as bending, lifting/moving up to 50 pounds, stretching and climbing. Must have the ability to work in confined spaces and from a ladder, scaffolding or man lift over ten feet in height. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Preferred Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED. Experience working on high voltage systems.
Brief Descriptions of Duties: The Trades Specialist (Electrician) will be responsible for the operations and maintenance of the campus high voltage distribution system. The Trades Specialist will learn the University high voltage electrical distribution system and switching procedures. The extensive University high voltage infrastructure requires continuous reliability, ensuring uninterrupted service to critical research and academic equipment. Must consistently maintain and demonstrate a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of University assets and employees. Under intensive training, the incumbent will become familiar with the University high voltage infrastructure. The Trades Specialist will respond to University electrical outages during the off hours.
Special Notes: This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference. SG 12 Hiring Rate $50,425. This position includes location pay of $4,000 per year.
