Job Profile

The Technical Specialist – Climate Change Adaptation and Livelihood, of “Addressing Climate Change Impacts on Vulnerable Communities and Women in the Dry Zone of Sri Lanka through an Integrated Approach to Food Systems” (Mihikatha Lanka Project) project funded by Global Affairs of Canada (GAC), is responsible for providing technical guidance in designing and implementing climate resilience and adaptation strategies and interventions particularly focusing on activities under outcome 1200 “Strengthened community structures to lead gender responsive sustainable land and watershed management mechanisms for climate adaptative farming in Welikanda and Rideemaliyadda of Sri Lanka”.

Major Responsibilities

  • Building the capacity of the project staffs on Climate change and the adaptation strategies in the local context
  • Understanding the nature of the community’s in the project location and building their capacity to cope with the changing climate
  • Linking with the appropriate stakeholders and educate their knowledge on climate change and it’s impacts
  • Coordinate with the project team, external parties and donors to ensure the adherence of the project objectives
  • Study and disseminate the GAC requirements in the FIAP and Climate change adaptation policies among the project team
  • Advise and educate the project team to deliver the activities and support to achieve the outcome
  • Direct project coordinators to follow all standards, policies and guidelines on a regular basis.
  • Create and maintain the standard documentation as per the Grant requirements.
  • Maintain close cooperation with Project Manager and the other members in the project team.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

  • At least 5 years’ experience in the development sector with detailed knowledge in climate change adaptation and climate action programming and related practical implementations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Sustainability Studies, Agriculture or similar field.
  • Exposure on climate change projects designing and implementation, knowledge on green economy and related national and international background to the subject would be an advantage
  • Knowledge in corporate sustainability, natural resource management, eco-business management or any other relevant subject area.
  • The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically in the project locations 50% of the time
