All camps share a common purpose: creating an environment where Young Life staff bring Christ to life by creatively presenting the complete gospel of Jesus Christ. Speaking clearly from the Scriptures, camp speakers introduce kids to the person of Christ, the nature of humanity, the work of Christ on the cross, the hope of the resurrection and the opportunity for reconciliation with God.

Essential Duties:
Spiritual Formation: Intentionally provide opportunities for staff to grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus.

- Develop the retail centers [Store, Snack Bar, Coffee Shop] to serve guests’ requests and sustainable business practices.
- Maintain professional written and verbal communication with staff, guests, volunteers, staff candidates, and vendors.

- Demonstrate customer care by assisting customers with inquires and product selection.

Comprehensive Stewardship: Manage with integrity the finances, people, buildings and equipment that have been entrusted to our ministry.
- Develop systems and train staff to participate in comprehensive stewardship.
- Ensure financial security throughout retail department both of cash handling and inventory
- Create and manage the financial budget for retail department
- Analyze monthly financial reports and establish goals accordingly.
- Maintain accurate financial reports [deposits, Concur, POS reports]
- Create ordering and invoice systems to track inventory and payment processes
- Perform an annual physical inventory of store.
- Forecast inventory levels and product needs of guests and participate in group purchasing.
- Adjust inventory levels for seasonality and group size.
- Evaluate department systems and processes annually, updating documents to reflect accuracy
- Engage in annual personnel evaluations for all retail staff
- Demonstrate proficiency in using Point of Sale [Square], Office, Outlook and other software applications
- Develop understating for equipment maintenance and operation as needed for retail centers
- Participate in weekly guest group information meetings; developing appropriate retail hours based on guest group history and requests
- Complete an annual cost analysis for concessions and coffee areas.
- Utilize the LINK to schedule DIN, routine tasks and preventative maintenance.
Talent Development: Through a consistent and accountable evaluation process, we identify and provide opportunities for staff in continuing education, leadership development, career-pathing and cross-training.

- Lead department staff in the execution of daily responsibilities with attention to the standards and metrics required for excellent camp operations.
- Ensure Young Life standards for appearance and cleanliness are met in all retail centers.
- Create and maintain themes in the retail centers that support overall camp theme and utilize visual merchandising and displays.
- Operate retail centers, and develop re-order processes to support sales
- Ensure that stock and supplies are at levels to meet guest needs and sales
- Receive merchandise for retail areas using defined inventory tracking processes.
- Demonstrate and train proper food handling and storage guidelines.
- Develop plan for seasonal food and equipment storage.
- Follow national retail policies
- Execute theft control practices
- Participate in retail department training, vendor evaluations, events and assigned impact areas.
- Maintain a specific camp Retail Operational Guide for each retail area.
Training Expectations:
- Engage with weekly camp meetings and spiritual development opportunities
- Maintain ServSafe and First Aid/CPR certifications
- Regular participation in Young Life trainings and department opportunities.
Camp or Job Specific Working Conditions:
- Hours will include evening and weekend shifts
- Working conditions will include lifting up to 50lbs, squatting, kneeling and ladder use
- Participate in camp events which will include outdoor work environments.
- Proper knowledge and use of cleaning chemicals
- Some travel required
Education:
- College degree or equivalent preferred
Qualifications and Experience Required For The Job:
- Previous business or retail experience preferred
- Fluency with Microsoft Office applications and an ability to learn and use all Young Life internal systems
- Experience training and leading teams
- Demonstrate professionalism in written and verbal communication with guests, vendors, and staff
- Demonstrate understanding of Young Life ministry, strategy and mission

Saranac Village has a long legacy as one of Young Life’s premier camps. It is nestled in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains in upstate NY and overlooks beautiful Upper Saranac Lake. The community has an excellent small-town feel and plenty of opportunities for local involvement in Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. The staff at Saranac Village are deeply committed to their personal walks with Jesus and pursuing deeper personal health in ministry. The staff value unity, caring for each well, and leading at a higher level. Staff must convey a sense of Christ-like hospitality and concern for guests and staff. Additional Job Description
Saranac Village is looking for a relationally and spiritually minded leader with a passion for retail to join our team in the Retail Manager role. This role will include working in retail approximately 75% of the time and marketing and theming the other 25%. As a Department Head, you will lead a team of Summer Interns and Summer Staff (monthly volunteers) as we seek to create environments where every guest, staff, and volunteer encounters Jesus Christ. The environments include a waterfront camp store, beach snack bar and crafts, and a combination coffee shop and snack bar.
Note: The anticipated salary for this position can range from $19.00-$23.80 depending on relevant education, experience, and location.
