In R&D, the promise of bringing more medicines to more patients faster is closely linked with maximizing our data usage for improved decision-making through analytics and AI. As a Data Architect, you will design, implement and enhance our data architecture, flows, structures and processing systems that form the core foundation for well-structured, findable and accessible data. Your expertise will accelerate the provisioning of high-quality data across our organization while serving as the technical lead for comprehensive data-centric solutions utilizing data warehouses, AI, web interfaces and analytics components.

Working closely with product owners and R&D stakeholders, you will optimize how we gather, structure and leverage data to support a broad variety of reporting, analytics, decision support and (Generative) AI solutions. You'll leverage our modern Data & AI ecosystem built on Snowflake, AWS, Informatica and Oracle technologies, becoming part of a highly skilled expert team. Your collaboration will span globally with headquarter-based Data, Digital & IT teams and developer teams across Europe, US and India.

As the single point of accountability for technical design and implementation in your area, you will translate complex requirements into efficient data architectures and partner with our data engineering team to transform these designs into reality. The data repositories, flows and solutions you design will directly enable Merck's mission to accelerate medical breakthroughs through intelligent data utilization.

Qualification, Experience & Skills:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, or related subjects
  • 6+ years of experience as a data warehouse expert, lead data engineer, data architect or data product owner
  • Experience in designing complex data models and data flow architectures
  • Experience in guiding data engineers in the implementation of scalable, reliable and efficient data flows
  • Experience in working with data & analytics solutions such as Snowflake, AWS (especially Glue, Lambda, DMS), Oracle and Informatica (PowerCenter and IICS). Experience working with Azure Dev Ops and warehouse automation tools (e.g. dbt, coalesce) is a plus
  • Conceptional experience in testing of data integrations and data models
  • Strong knowledge of SQL, with knowledge of Python (in particular pandas and PySpark) being a plus
  • Strong drive to think of data flows from end-to-end, i.e. from ingestion to data modelling and solution delivery
  • Experience with Healthcare R&D is a plus
  • Excellent English and Spanish communication skills and ability to effectively communicate both with R&D scientists and software engineers
  • Experience working in virtual and agile teams
