Position Title: Assistant Staff Accountant

Location: Herndon, VA – On-site (5 days per week)

Assignment Type: Permanent Hire

Compensation: $65,000 – $75,000 (annual base salary)

Work Schedule: M–F, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Job Description:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to support accounting operations within a small, collaborative office environment. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll—especially within multi-state or multi-country settings—and who thrives in a structured and quiet workplace.

The ideal candidate will bring strong Excel skills, excellent organizational abilities, and a willingness to assist with a wide range of accounting tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage full-cycle accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
  • Maintain general ledger entries for multiple entities, including those operating in various currencies.
  • Process cash transactions and complete comprehensive bank reconciliations.
  • Reconcile key balance sheet accounts and ensure accuracy of supporting schedules.
  • Prepare trial balances and contribute to monthly management reporting.
  • Analyze variances against budget and help resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare and reconcile sales tax, VAT/HST/GST filings as needed across applicable regions.
  • Collaborate with global finance team members to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in AP, AR, and payroll—multi-state or multi-country experience required.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles and reconciliations.
  • Experience with payroll platforms (Paychex, Dayforce, or similar) preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a small, quiet office environment.
  • Must reside within 30 minutes of Herndon, VA.
  • Experience with accounting software, including ERP systems such as Sage, is preferred but not required.
  • Relevant accounting coursework or partial professional certifications (CMA, ACCA, etc.) are considered a plus.
