Title: CNC Machinist

Shift: 1st: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Location: Scotia, NY

Pay Rate: $30.00–$40.00

Position Summary

Nesco Resource is seeking an experienced Programmer & Machinist III to join our team. This role is primarily responsible for programming computer numerical controlled (CNC) production equipment and may also perform machinist duties. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in CNC programming, machine setup, and metal fabrication.

Essential Job Functions

  • Program CNC mills and/or lathes for precision machining.
  • Display and manipulate part images on-screen to verify tool paths and machining accuracy.
  • Adjust programs or offsets to achieve final part dimensions.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and tolerances.
  • Measure workpieces and document inspection results to ensure accuracy.
  • Observe machine operations to detect defects or malfunctions and take corrective actions.
  • Perform deburring, finishing, and general machine maintenance.
  • Log activities accurately into the Data Collection System and maintain backup paper records.
  • Follow Manufacturing Process Instructions (MPIs).
  • Train or provide general instruction to others and may direct the work of trainees or apprentices.

Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge of:

  • Blueprint reading and interpretation.
  • CNC machines and tools, including operation, setup, and maintenance.
  • Applied mathematics and trigonometry.
  • Manufacturing processes, quality control, and production efficiency.
  • Effective training and instruction techniques.

Skills in:

  • CNC mill and/or lathe programming and operation.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Reading comprehension and active listening.
  • Monitoring and improving work processes and quality.

Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Excellent manual and finger dexterity with steady hand control.
  • Ability to identify problems and act quickly to resolve them.
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.

Job Controls & Complexity

  • Works under limited supervision — goals and deadlines are provided, but the employee determines methods and approaches.
  • Assignments vary and require applying a range of conventional techniques and methods.

Education & Experience

  • Required: High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years in metal fabrication and CNC setup/programming (Horizontal/Vertical Lathes and/or Mills).
  • Preferred: Knowledge of trigonometry.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs constantly.
  • Frequent standing, stooping, reaching, lifting, and handling tools/materials.
  • Clear verbal communication and hearing acuity required for shop safety and coordination.
  • Visual acuity required for close precision work on machinery.

Work Environment

  • Occasional exposure to high noise levels—hearing protection provided.
  • May be exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, electrical currents, and chemicals.
  • Safety gear and adherence to all shop safety protocols are required.
