Assistant Coach - Mens & Womens Tennis

The Assistant Coach for Tennis assists the Head Coach in the planning and operation of all aspects of the tennis program at Iona University. This includes planning and preparing for practice, all competitions, and providing input on player evaluations and other decisions concerning team operations. In addition, the Assistant Coach will actively support the scouting of opponents and the breakdown of our own performances.

The Assistant Coach also has both on- and off- campus recruiting responsibilities, to identify, encourage and evaluate application and acceptance of student athletes at Iona. NCAA and University policies as assigned by the head coach. The Assistant Coach will play a key role in the development of our program culture and identity.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities for this position will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in planning and conducting high-quality practices, training sessions, and match strategy for both programs.
  • Provide on-court instruction that enhances technical, tactical, and mental performance.
  • Assist in recruiting student-athletes domestically and internationally, following all NCAA, Conference, and Institutional compliance rules.
  • Evaluate talent, build relationships with recruits, and coordinate campus visits.
  • Support student-Athletes academically, promoting positive habits both in the classroom and on the court.
  • Assist with team travel logistics including itineraries, transportation, lodging, and meals.
  • Coordinate equipment management, stringing, technology for performance analysis, and other operational needs.
  • Help develop team culture grounded in integrity, respect, and competitive drive.
  • Help represent the program at departmental, community, and alumni events.
  • Contribute to fundraising, camps, clinics, and promotional activities.
  • Maintain accurate records, including logs and recruiting documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Collegiate playing experience.
  • Prior collegiate coaching experience preferred.
  • At least 4 years of coaching experience.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and recruiting processes.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build trust and motivate student-athletes of diverse backgrounds.
  • Must travel on weekends during the playing season.
  • Detailed oriented and specific with instructions.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with technology, recruiting databases, scheduling software.
  • Passionate about tennis, player wellness, sports psychology, and holistic development.
