Kinsa is looking for a data architect to help build the world’s first outbreak detection system for contagious disease.
We are driven by our mission to track and stop the spread of contagious illness. We use data analytics and machine learning to forecast where and when illness will break out. Our award winning connected thermometers provide the sensor network needed to collect real-time, geolocated, clinically accurate health data. We've proven that our data can accurately track the spread of influenza in communities weeks ahead of the US Centers for Disease Control
We are looking for an experienced technologist who loves data. You are highly skilled at data analytic techniques and equally passionate about insights gleaned from, and the problems solved with our unique data set. Working with our data scientist and health experts you will be responsible for architecting and implementing systems to capture, model and transform our data into a powerful, global, early warning system for the outbreak of disease. You will play a pivotal role in designing and building our data collection platform and delivering robust data pipelines. You will have a broad set of responsibilities including how we build, deploy, diagnose, monitor, scale and secure the Kinsa data platform.

Design, build and deploy robust, efficient ETL and data pipelines to support our key health signals and forecasts
Intelligently design and implement our data architecture including data warehouse and data models for optimal storage and retrieval
Implement inclusive data quality checks to ensure high quality of data
Provide data-driven insights that inform significant company decisions
Ensure we meet scalability and performance needs
Assist with meeting data privacy and data security standards
Securely source external data from multiple partners
Collaborate with data scientists, program managers, the executive team and other engineers to meet business needs and accommodate new data sources that improve our illness signal and extend our forecasts
At least 5 years of experience in data engineering building data warehouses and data pipelines
Built large scale, data driven applications including elements like real-time streaming, batch data aggregation, data modeling, data cleaning, anomaly detection and bulk ingestion
Experience designing and writing robust ETL jobs
Experience with distributed data processing systems (e.g., Spark, Hadoop, etc.)
Strong technical background, passionate about problem solving and providing solutions
Experience in all phases of the software development life cycle
Strong software development skills at least one of (Java, Scala, Python)
Extensive experience with SQL
Experience with AWS (ie EC2, S3, EFS, RDS, DynamoDB, Lambda, Redshift, AWS Glue)
Strong technical leadership skills
Excellent communication skills, ability to engage effectively with stakeholders, team members, managers and colleagues.
Nice to have
Experience designing and implementing data-as-a-service (DaaS)
Geospatial data processing and mapping datasets
Understanding or experience with Europe’s General Data Protection regulations (GDPR)
Understanding or experience with HIPAA compliance
Experience designing and implementing microservices
Experience with Node.js
