Responsible for rendering professional care to patients undergoing procedures within the Center, in accordance with established procedures. Functions cooperatively with physicians and staff exhibiting teamwork characteristics. Demonstrates initiative, insight and judgement in decision making process.
Assists in preparing patient for designated procedure
Accurately obtains vital signs as indicated and documents on chart
Cleans equipment used as per policy
Observes universal precautions
Participates in QAPI/Safety Program
Assists with maintaining adequate inventory of supplies
Assists with housekeeping responsibilities as directed by Recovery Room Nurse and/or OR/Procedure Nurse
Informs nurse in charge when leaving for break, lunch or for the day
Perform other tasks and duties as directed by the Center Director or Physician which are within their legal limitations
Seeks educational opportunities and accepts responsibilities for own professional growth and development
Must maintain patient right to privacy by not discussing privileged information outside the work area or within hearing range of visitor’s family or patient
Keeps work area clean, neat and stocked
Demonstrates initiative, insight and judgment in decision-making process
Greets patients and verifies patient name, orients them to changing area
Escorts patient to stretcher or chair (as applicable). Verifies stretcher is in locked position and assist patient onto stretcher. Places side rails in the raised position.
Provides a safe environment for the patient to prevent potential injury. Investigates and intervenes in problem situations, reporting appropriate information to supervisor and documents same
Maintains and cleans equipment
Consults with appropriate supervisor or physician as needed
Accepts direction from supervisor or physicians and adheres to established routines
Maintains traffic control and cleanliness in Pre-op/Post-op area
Communicates patient status and other pertinent information to coworkers as needed
Provides emotional support and reassurance to patient and family during perioperative stay
Refers situations beyond ability or function to proper person
Ensures informed signed consent completed prior to administration of sedation
Reports errors of commission/omission
Assists with answering the phone when necessary
Knowledgeable of potential exposure to hazardous materials (i.e. patient body fluids, disinfectant chemicals)
Maintain flexibility and performs other duties as required
Documents pertinent data on required forms in accordance with Center policies
Assists in monitoring and maintaining instruments, supplies and equipment in the Center
Assists in code cart maintenance and defibrillator checks
Acts appropriate in emergency situations by notifying and assisting appropriate personnel
Reports to supervisor any unusual occurrences, breaks in technique malfunctioning equipment, any unsafe condition or potential hazard
Attends inservice programs and keeps informed of current policies and procedures and standards of practice
Maintains Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification
