PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Buildings & Project Manager, the Maintenance Technician performs a variety of semi-skilled technical tasks, including the maintenance, repair and remodeling of buildings, grounds, facilities, machinery and equipment. The Maintenance Technician must demonstrate in their performance adherence to established policies and procedures exhibiting the defined characteristics associated with attendance and punctuality.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Performs a variety of complex, semi-skilled maintenance duties requiring good judgment and knowledge of various trade skills such as carpentry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, painting, door hardware etc. Must be able to work independently in routine maintenance assignments or under the direction of the Buildings & Project Manager.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and operational repairs of electrical, HVAC, boilers, kitchen, refrigeration and laundry equipment. Also, security systems such as door access control, video surveillance, burglar alarms and master key systems.
  • Performs weekly inspections of St. Anthony Foundation (SAF) vehicles and building equipment.
  • Knowledge of carpentry, masonry, painting, roofing, plumbing, lighting systems and low voltage equipment.
  • Works with Buildings & Project Manager in implementation of procedures and scheduling of daily maintenance projects.
  • Implements preventative maintenance schedules upon request of Buildings & Project Manager and according to building needs, which includes regular visual inspections of all facility equipment – elevators, boilers, generators, HVAC, refrigeration, fire alarm, security systems, sump pumps etc.
  • Responsible for the proper recycling of paper, cans, and bottles. Includes working closely with SAF Staff to ensure that recycling company receives proper materials.
  • Works as part of a team to conduct general building repairs and complete work orders.
  • Informs Buildings & Project Manager of repairs required, purchases and supplies needed and identifies trades to complete work.
  • Oversees functions of building mechanical, electrical, plumbing and security systems.
  • Ability to coordinate, collaborate and work in synch as part of a 3 person maintenance team.
  • Assists in monitoring all work being performed by outside contractors.
  • Responsible for alerting the Buildings & Project Manager of any unusual occurrences and/or damages that have taken place or that may occur.
  • Responsible for keeping the maintenance shops in an orderly and organized manner, including maintaining tools, equipment and supply inventories.
  • Assists with emergencies at all facilities by being on call for 24-hour emergency maintenance service as scheduled or needed.
  • Maintains custodial supply inventory and places supply orders for 121/150 Golden Gate facilities.
  • Works in coordination with the Buildings & Project Manager to prioritize work orders daily, as well as, with the planning and scheduling of work unit needs.
  • Responsible for janitorial emergency duties and other duties as assigned by Buildings & Project Manager.
  • Knowledgeable of, and implements established safety procedures at all times.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five years of relevant technical building maintenance experience that includes demonstrated skills to maintain and repair electrical, heating and ventilating, plumbing, waste drainage and fire suppression systems.
  • Knowledge of methods, tools and materials used in construction, maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds and building equipment and systems.
  • Availability to be on call when needed
  • Familiarity with basic carpentry; roof repairs; floor coverings; plumbing fixture maintenance and repair; and painting methods.
  • Ability to multi task, prioritize, provide direction, follow oral and written instructions and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clients and outside maintenance contractors.
  • Strong interpersonal, listening and clear communication skills. Bilingual preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules and be on-call for emergencies.
  • Knowledge of hazardous chemical safety procedures.
  • Ability to lift fifty pounds.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a part of a team.
  • Valid California driver’s license and excellent driving record.
